Evaporation canister. This car was built with a defect that caused a NON defective canister to fail. Toyota knew about this defect in November of 2007 and choose NOT to correct it in cars in service. Integrity at it finest.

What is this all about?

Edit: never mind. I found it: TSB T-EG048-07
When I searched for Evaporation canister, nothing showed up. Apparently, it was filed under vapor canister, LOL.

OK, according to the TSB T-EG048-07 (available on the microimage USA.zip file), there is an improved Fuel Tank Filler Pipe Cover Holder (PN 77248–52060; $8 part).

Now, according to the newer T-SB-0024-11 (available free online) there is also new and improved Fuel Tank Filler Pipe Protector (PN 77277–52080; $40 part).

But, there is also the newest TSB-0016-12 dealing with the same problem: TO PREVENT INTRUSION TO FUEL FILLER PIPE COVER, BY WATER OR DEBRIS THROUGH FRESH AIR INLET, A FILLER PIPE PROTECTOR WAS CREATED.

Unfortunately, I can't find the newest TSB online. Does anyone have a copy of it?

Has anyone replaced those parts to prevent the $800 canister from going bad. Or do you just wait for it to go bad? How water gets in the canister in the first place? Due to rain?

TSB-0016-12 is only for the 07-11 Sedan and is basically identical to T-SB-0024-11 for the hatchback.
