I have an 07 yaris base model. Of course it has the low-tire-pressure alerting valve stems.

I had the tires replaced a couple years ago for the first time at a Merchants Tire, not sure what was done about the valve stems...never thought about it.

I need new tires again. How do these tire pressure alerting valve stems work? Is it a whole unit, or something that attaches to a replacement stem?

Someone fill me in

thanks!!!

The Yaris did not get TPMS until 2008, so your 2007 does not have tire pressure sensors.

OK. In that case, to answer your question, the stem is part of the whole sensor assembly.

If you just replace the tires, then the sensors are fine. The seals between the sensor and wheel and stem and wheel should be replaced every once in a while (if memory serves me right it is about every 4 years) and tire shops typically stock the replacement seal kits.

Should replace the "sleeve kits" every time you get new tires (unless, like me, you change tires a LOT). Sleeve kits include: rubber seal, nut, core, cap and any tire shop should stock them.

Cheers.
