Edit: installed! http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=84214&postcount=42

Starting this thread because "step 1" has been completed. I went down to louisville to check out apartments/shop... I'm moving verrrry soon  . One great thing, the apartment that was applied for (hopefully we get it!!!) is all of 15 mins from ZPI.

Anyway, I HAD to stop by ZPI to check em out while I was down there. Kenny showed me around. Seems like a nice setup, they have some AWESOME projects going on!!

I'll know what day it will be installed by tomorrow, moving + turbo install is going to be interesting!

Hopefully things go smooth!

The more "got boost" stickers, the more you got boost, duh...

But I duno if the motor can handle 12 stickers...

bumpity bumpity, hopefully zpi calls back tomorrow and says they are ready for me to come get it installed asap... I really hope this week, but probably early next week.

On a side note, my future roomate has been screwin around, and still hasn't settled on an apartment... pita i'm ready yesterday.

means I probably wont attend the funkmaster flex car show down in l-ville this weekend... but we'll see.

Cruisefest is the weekend after, but thats over in columbus, OH.... its also filled with boobies, so it may be worth the trip :headbang:

My main shows are the dub show and indy bash... at least at this time. I dont think the yaris will be "ready" until next year. Hopefully do some paint and interior work over the winter.

Depends on the motor. Its been done on the 1nz a handful of times without any issues... and zpi kits have been on TC's for thousands of miles without issue.

I'm sure if I had a lead foot something would eventually break, but thats the reality of any motor.

I'll need it!!!!!

My roomate is MIA, and apparantly has made no progress on finding a place... I found one I was happy with, and was cheap, but he didn't go for it, sucks. It'll be a PITA getting a place myself, I'd rather just wait on another roomate.

Good luck with your drive train parts in your stock Yaris transmission. Toyota recommends no more than 150 whp before your transmission will begin to have problems.

I know the tc trannies have held 400 hp with no problems.... ii doubt toyota recommends that.

Ahhhh, so much fun! Super fast spool, feels like full boost around 3200 rpm... very quick even with the dubs on!

Raced a 91 3000gt vr4 thats lightly modded, the yaris pulled it on the highway, but just cant keep up with that AWD launch, its even after that. I'd say I'd pull on em with lighter wheels.

See the turbo 'busa vid where the guy is takin it to 160, if you look at the horizon, it looks like he's just cruisin along. Thats what happens when you have a slow frame rate cam - the speedometer tells a better story. I'll get a 0-60 vid today if i can. Believe me its WAY faster than it ever was. I got it from 60 to 117 (on my speedometer, not sure actual speed) in the time it used to take me to get from 60 to approx 100 with my intake and stock wheels on. Its not remotely comparable.. even with the dubs on! Just to put it into perspective... I couldnt get it past ~105 with the dubs on, at least not after a few miles of WOT. There wasnt enough smooth highway in IL for me to get past that lol.

The speedometer is either way low in the yaris, or its way high in the 3000gt, I'd say a combo of both. When cruisin along, my 40 was his 45

no dyno, but my butt dyno says there is approx omg.7 hp @ the wheels.

Crappy oil that was put in for breakin comes out today or tomorrow and K&N filter + mobil 1 goes in.

On that note, its taking some time to relearn how to drive so I'm not goin full boost @ every stop light. Chicago folks have a tendancy to drive kinda fast all the time, and keeping up used to mean revving to 3500+ from a stoplight... 3500 or so now means healthy boost and a nice BOV when i let off the gas to slow back down (not that i'm complaing about hearing that wonderful sound)... Definitely gonna take some getting used to.

Probably b/c of your big wheels... since they have a larger overall diameter, they're turning slower to maintain the same speed, so your speedometer will register a lower speed than actual.

Which also means the car is shifting at a much higher speed, i could def feel the difference when I first put em on. It was/is kewl though, just takes a little more gas to get goin, I generally dont drive "hard" anyway.

turboyaris
05-11-2007, 01:42 AM
the need for the welding was because of the difference in body styles between the liftback and sedan I am sure. So for the remaining customers I would bet it is a bolt on process, seeing as they have now fitted it to a sedan and a liftback. so you're all good

Ok, so is this an Auto transmission yaris? The Launch from the vid was pretty mild. 0-60 time looked about 8 second, but at 182 FWHP in a 2200 lbs car it should be sub-6 with a manual. BOV sounds great and the exhaust note is TUNERIFFIC! Now, about the first 25 seconds of fumbling and lense cleaning ;)

I can't wait to get mine!!

the internals are already out? :)

Vanderkitten
05-11-2007, 06:02 PM
Honestly, 190HP is not a big deal for the internals on these motors. I can imagine that if you went hi-comp on the pistons you might want to look into better connecting rods, like you would with any motor, or just have the stockers balanced at least. VW's get 240+ out of a 1.8T all day long with a stock K03 turbo, chip, intake and exhaust with stock parts. Those motors are 10:1 compression as well, so it's fairly hi-comp for a turbo motor!

Beyond a good ZPI clutch and limited slip diff and bigger brakes, you're probably set. If you wanted to pump a 30psi Turbo, Nos and hi-comp pistons you might want to look for some new internals... or a different car. =)

Doc Zaius
05-11-2007, 06:23 PM
Guy... the Yaris has a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Stock. And the rods a built like toothpicks.

I'm not sure you can compare a factory-turboed engine made for a performance(ish) car with an engine built to be light and for fuel economy. Apples and oranges.

Yea, auto car with no torque is no good. From 30 to 90 is much more impressive than 0-60.

The biggest thing with the launch, though, is getting 105lbs of wheel spinning... lighter wheels I would imagine would help a ton there.

I think the thing to remember here is ZPI didn't reinvent the wheel for the yaris... this has already been reliably done on XB's, both auto and manual.

I'm sure it shortens the life of the motor, but we are talkin a motor that would run until eternity :)

what turbo manifold did you use? one for a xB or xA?

turboyaris

its a turbo manifold for a yaris

ZPIracing
05-14-2007, 05:09 PM
I think all the questions have been answered. The turbo manifold is proprietary to this kit. We actually place the wastegate behind the turbo to keep the heat away from the ECU. The CEL is due to the removal of the primary O2 sensor. We do this to prevent the ECU from having adaptive control.

The kit is safe we are not making the slow car a race car only a slow car not so slow anymore…. You can run 7psi and just about anything. If you are not sold on the idea and you think it will fail but still want boost add the low compression pistons and get rolling…..

We will not put our name on something that is not engineered to perfection and safe for the end user to use.

Don't be so sure, like Doc said, these cars were built for different things. There is no need to over engineer a rod on a car that is made for gas milage. But when you have a turbo charged motor that has to see boost for the majority of driving, you'll make a little bit more beefy rod. I had a 1.8T and it made 370whp with a 50 trim t3/t4 on a bone stock motor. Also, the 1.8T is 9.5:1 on some motors and 9:1 on others.

I don't think it's a good idea to ship a product that will ALWAYS have a check engine light. Emissions and inspection are common in most states. You can get a better tune on the stock ECU rather than using e-manage :barf: and have to deal with all the garbage that goes along with it.

I doubt they will answer you with videos of the turbo...

If you use the search button on here - or on youtube, you will find the video of the yaris sedan with their turbo kit. However the company is not around anymore for numerous shady reasons (which you can also find by using the search button). Either way - I wouldnt bother looking for a turbo kit from them anytime soon.
