Cordless Air Compressor with Tire Gauge

Anyone have one of these?...Or have a friend who does and has tested one. If so...Did you find the gauge to be accurate? Did the battery last long enough to justify the cordless feature. SkyMall sells this product.

I assume this is for an "in car" emergency kit in case you loose power and you need to inflate your tires? I use a Kobolt brand plug in to 12v in my car.. I also have one of those 3 gallon air tanks where you pressurize the air at home and take that to my autocross events.

So instead of ranting about what I use... to answer your question, no, haven't used one and don't see the point in a battery powered one being that you may not know if the batteries are dead when you will need it.

i keep one of those all in one: (portable jump starter/air compressor/external cig or usb power) in the car at all times. Not only does it come in handy for external power, but to help others with tires/dead battery.

I have one of the little Kobalt lighter kits as well. It works well, but is quite slow. Ryobi makes a battery one that uses its One+ 18V battery, but with a battery one I would worry about self discharge before I ever needed to use it.

Agreed with Scott. My Kobalt one is really slow.. Also, my pressure gauge is screwed up. Its 10 psi off.. it will read 30psi, but there is actually 40psi in the tire. I have a separate gauge for it now, I don't rely on it anymore for accuracy, just to add air in the tire

Nook, when I was debating about getting a full size spare or not for my trips out to OH, I decided to go the portable inflator route, I didn't want the full size spare disrupting the flat area in the back.

I got the Viair 00073 Heavy duty compressor from Amazon, plus a tire plug kit. Never had to use it, just plugged it in to make sure it worked when I got, It fits, with a little effort in one of the black side compartments next to the doughnut spare.

I bought it purely on the reviews.

When I drove the Yaris to AK in 2011 I had a 12v air compressor, two mounted spares and the donut + a plug kit, and three cans of fix a flat and a hydraulic jack.

Didint need any of it. You can pretty much drive the family car as is to AK and around AK for that matter.

I like my rechargable weedwacker and chainsaw but frankly dont see the utility/wisdom for a ditto air compressor. Its not something you often use. Once the battery is dead its worthless. Whereas a 12v ac you can run indefinately on the alternator in an emergency.

Thanks to all for your replies :thumbsup:. I've had a Craftsman 12v air compressor for many years....as well as a hand held pressure gauge to better check the pressure. However, in some situations, it is irritating to have a window rolled down while putting the 12v to use. If Scott would worry about the battery holding a charge, that is enough for me to nix the idea. I'll stick with the slight irritation re the window.
