View Full Version : Buy a Yaris, Quit Smoking

After smoking for way too many years, and opening a white-hot, stinking car with a full ashtray in the middle of August in Georgia, I decided not to smoke in the Yaris. I've had the car 7 months, haven't smoked in it at all... even with the windows open.

Finally went the extra step. QUIT smoking entirely, 2 months now. Now I can use the extra "cigarette money" for goodies for my car!:headbang:

Tried cold turkey, tried cutting down, tried wellbutrin. None of them worked. Tried the latest drug (chantix) & it works! Kills the urge for nicotine in the brain so you can smoke as much as you want, but you don't HAVE to or even want to. I can even still hang with the smokers at work & not go nuts.

Gosh I remember smoking those cloves. I remember that smell from parties mostly. Seems like that is a weekend smoke for most. I was a Camelhead. I smoked Filter 100's for many years and then dropped to the lights cuz I thought the 100's looked awfully silly. Yeah it's all about looking cool and getting a buzz off some tobacco. Your clothes stink, your house, your car, your breath, your an addict, your suffocating yourself-breathe damnit breathe

Take your life back and trash those disgusting cancer sticks! Then you'll have more money to fill up your tank.

back in the 90's I could get a pack of smokes and enough gas to get around all day for 5 bucks 1.40 a pack and .88 cents a gallon, those were the days

plenty of money left over for a dime bag and a 40 ounce Old English

yeah I'm glad I grew up:thumbsup:

Seriously, I have been thinking a lot about quitting lately and this thread has basically helped convince me. That is $75 a month that I spend on the stupidest habit ever. Thanks for keeping it real boys.

yeah man i used to smoke a pack a day mostly at work b/c in my shop everyone smokes... then i got a really bad cold and had trouble breathing for a bout a week, scared the shit outta me so i decided to quit. so just after that i bought the yaris i said f-it i dont want to ruin this car with ash stains and burn marks on the fabric and have it smell like an ashtray. so right now ive been good for 10 weeks  the only bad part is people still smoke at my shop... they come over and ask "hey you still keeping strong on not smoking etc.." as they are smoking in my face  anyways, i still get the urge once and a while like if im drinking or stuck in traffic. but so far so good. its worth it, the money i been saving is enough reason alone...

When I got my Yaris my gf convinced me not to smoke in it, then a few weeks later she finally convinced me it would be a good time to quit. I would normally smoke a pack a day. I've been on the patch for 2 weeks, it helps more than I thought it would, but I still sneak one in every couple of days.

Screw the patch you are still on the nicotine. Just STOP, sure you'll be a little bitch for a few days and you'll wake up at night wanting one - first thing in the morning will suck -but you'll see how strong you can really be when you toss 'em and show the fuckin' world whose boss. It's your money and your body so if you want to throw it away go ahead, but don't blow that shit in my face. I would suggest picking up a habit of lifting weights or something to benefit yourself rather than destroy yourself.

by the way I was a heavy smoker from a very young age until my 27th year, I smoked anywhere between 1 pack to 3 packs a day (if I pulled an all nighter), I no longer drink or smoke-anything, or do any kinds of drugs

^ yeah really... screw the patch, cold turkey works best. youll want to kill for a about a week or so, but after that it gets a little better. esp. when you can start smelling things and actually taste food correctly again

I've tried cold turkey and it just doesn't work for me, so this time I figured I'd try something different. I figure I'm spending less on the patch then I did on cigs so why not try it. So far it seems to be working better than cold turkey for me.

There is a new pill out that will trigger something in your head that makes the cigarettes taste like shit. My boss tried this and it worked for him. I am not sure the name of it but you may want to check with a doctor if you need help quitting.

It's called Chantix, and it doesn't make the cigarettes taste bad. It makes your brain not process the nicotine so you don't need it. You start taking the pills before you quit, pick a start date (when you get up to full dosage) and then quit. You can really keep smoking, but why? You really don't have the urge.

It's what I used & works great but it's expensive & my insurance wouldn't pay for it. After 2 months, I've stopped taking the pills so we'll see how it goes, but I really don't want to ever smoke again.

cool, glad it worked for you, I never used anything so I was just going off of what the one person I know who has used this pill (chantix) had told me, he described being sick when he smoked, I think it has been 8-10 months since he tried this pill and he hasn't smoked since, this guy is 40 something and tried for many years to quit, I think you are through, glad there is something out there for people who need an aide

I used the patch ,after 32 years of smoking, and it has worked (1 year so far...). The trick this time (yeah, I "quit" maybe 5 times before) was NOT to start on the high-strength one, but on the middle strength patch. Apparently the high-strength is really high, so it is like sudden;ly smoking more, and then having to quit. The middle-strength is much less, and so it feels like you are cutting down immediately.
Anyhoo, it worked for me. YMMV
Bottom line - whatever works is worth doing.

Congratulations Typer73 !!!
I took the same route as you. 24 yrs of smoking and many times tried to quit with no luck. With the Chantix I am happy to say I have not smoked in 10 days. Finally quit that nasty habbit.
Again... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I smoked about a pack a day for 20 years. About 3 years ago I just sorta binged out on cigs, and it disgsted me so much I just stopped. You will know you have quit for good when you walk by some smokers and instead of wanting to bum one, you will avoid them all together because it makes you sick to smell their smoke. Try cigars for a while, but only when having a drink. Soon you will be really disgusted and quit fully.

Richmond is a tobacco town, and now the resturaunt are starting to go smoke free. I am very excited when I go to a previously smokey place and read "Smoke-Free" on the door! I hate eating while smelling smoke!
