does anybody have problems shifting up or down in the higher rpm's?
even in my brand new transmission it seems like i cant drop a gear to get around someone who is driving to slow without grinding second. just wondering.....that is my only complaint about my yaris. i havent had any issues like that in my subaru or gti or any other 5 speed....

shifting down to 2nd is pretty awful for me too. 5-4-3 is awesome...but 2...not so much.

I don't think I've ever had issues shifting down to 2nd at 50mph. But you are at a very high rpm at that speed. So you really need to rev match.

Yea, what IllusionX said. Rev matching will fix it.

rev matching doesnt help second gear, every other gear is fine. im honestly thinking it might be that the slave cylinder. that has gone out twice already.

JOOC, ballpark, how many miles on the car overall?

iv never had my yaris grind a gear, and i do track days.

except for one time when my friend got high and thought he would be helpful by putting my car in reverse for me.... without the clutch :smoking::bonk:

my car is just under 60k miles.

even my corolla which is 175 000 miles and 24 years old doesn't grind gears.

my car has both a brand new motor and transmission. i figured out what was wrong....when i replaced both i left one of the subrame mounts un-torqued and it came loose so it was making a knocking sound so i got underneath there and tightened it down and when i was under there i noticed a huge puddle of gear oil sitting on the splash guard and saw that the tranny is leaking fluid so im going to break it open and re-seal it and close it back up. but for now i have topped off the fluid and driving it until this weekend for when i have time to pull it out. i think while im there im going to hand make a new splash guard because mine is all torn up and ugly.

Make sure the clutch is disengaging properly especially since everything is apart. Also rev matching helps.

I grind my gears everyonce in a blue moon due to a random retard moment or wet shoe

The only one I've ever had refuse to engage is 1st, but only if travelling over about 10 mph. I do occasionally grind 2nd or 3rd, but that's always because I mis-shift or drop the clutch too fast.

Re-sealing the gearbox is a non-trivial project. Are you sure it's between the sections and not just a shaft seal?

ya i can see exactly where the seal has worn away. i took a sos pad to it and the put son silicone there until i drop it and fix it. it fixed my issue.
