It is with a heavy heart and a good bit of adrenaline lost, that I give up my SRT.
I sold the car today and picked up this in it's stead:

...now, I have to tell my wife...
No, it's not real. It's a clone. It's clean enough but has a lots of little small things that need to be taken care of. But that's the fun part with a car like this.

I imagine it does have a few things, they tend to creep up since 1967. What motor, 289? 2bbl or 4, manual or auto.

She's gotta like that better than the Dodge, how can she not!!

At this point it's a VERY clean 289 that has been worked over. I'm putting some research into it to see what properly came in the Shelby...if it's a hipo 289/302 or a 351 Cleveland. Hopefully it's the 351. I'd love to be able to give it a 427 treatment.

The dodge was more powerful and handled better...but it certainly didn't have the "it" factor that this brings. This engine sounds GREAT! It has some good low and mid range torque but definitely not the top end of the SRT.

You should have seen the looks I received just driving it away from the dealer back to work.
Still, this is about days gone by and American Graffiti...you can just sit there and stare at it and love it for what it is instead of wanting something more, like I did with the SRT.
If my research is correct, the 289 or the 302 are correct engines for the GT350. If I move into a 351/427 conversion, it should be rebadged as a "GT500". If I ever do that, I'd better make damned sure it's putting out 650 HP...

In 67 it would be the 289. And yes I know the SRT had plus' to it, but dang, man. And by the way, going to the 427 conversion would be a BIG deal as the whole drive train and front suspension would be needed do to weight and power. And probably sub frame connectors to support chassis twist. kinda like this,

FYI remember the weight bias of that car and really consider keeping the small block. FYI, old 302's had a tendency to literally split in half after 500 hp. I'd keep the 289 and make it streetable and the weight would help handling.
I respect the power that the import engines can put out, but the sound of an american V8 will always bring me back. guess its my age bracket, lol

Great car, great times will be had. Personally speaking as a Mustang owner, I'd drop the Shelby badges and hood since they never officially launched a notchback version (only GT500 prototype). You could easily do a proper California Special clone with the way the car is set up right now. Either way, still a great car. Have fun!!

All the input is welcomed.
...And YES! That V8 sound is just secksi to my ears...
I completely understand about the Shelby look. It was sold to me as a "tribute" car. Yeah, I get it. I'm going to take some time to understand the car and the history around it before making any changes...but yes, the CS looks like it would be much more proper for this car. Especially seeing as it was made in San Jose in 1967.

Great decision. You can get enjoyment even just looking at the exterior. Are there any places in your area where you can open up the throttle and not 'worry' ? In the 90s, I remember some of the roads WAY, WAY out between The Dalles and Bend (Hwy 197 ?, Hwy 97 ?) were pretty isolated....but these days? It seems these days, with LE agencies, revenue generation is numero uno...with some saturation in previously uncovered areas.

Awesome car! And its not popular because of reliving the past...its an iconic design...attractive then and attractive now.
There was 1 68 Shelby notchback...the green hornet. Black vinyl top GT500 (actually EXP500) with irs and fuel injection.

Engine? I'd recommend staying with a sbf. Same power can be had. Great engine design. Easier by far to work on. Economical for parts and efficiency. Handles far better. And that's coming from a guy with an FE 390 Interceptor powered boat and an FE 428 CobraJet powered Ranchero.
Fomoco! Well....and the Mighty Yaris.

I think that you will enjoy it. I loved my 66 coupe that I had while I was active duty. Owned it from 97-99. Had actually pulled the motor to do a swap while at Fort Hood and got my orders for Korea. Didn't have the cash to get the new drivetrain into the car in time so was forced to sell it.
