I came across this image on some other forum. It looks like they have a deep socket that's flat on the outside instead of round, so it can be grabbed with a wrench. Looks perfect for the bolt on top of the front struts. Anyone know what this is called or where to buy?

Looks like a spark plug socket.
And finding the original forum post, it's a 13/16" spark plug socket. Available at all finer auto parts stores. :) Don't know what size ours would be, though.

Looks like a tool enabling tools to strip nuts.

Very common. Try Sears or JC Whitney if you can't find local.
I have them in SK, Snap On, Craftsman and Husky. Of course my tools are
old and most were used when I got them.

Ours are 17mm, so a standard spark plug socket will not work. Instead, just get yourself and offset box wrench.

^ This. Harborfreight or Northern Tool will be your best friend. An offset box wrench means that you don't have to remove the wipers and cowl to change the struts. As an alternative, can I suggest a through-hole socket set? Frequently on sale, often with a 20-25% off coupon: http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/sockets-ratchets/21-pc-sae-metric-go-thru-socket-set-67974.html

I know this is an old thread, but if Im correct I happen to have come across this type of socket for the first time just recently. I think it was called an open/pass through socket set. The ratchet drives it from the outside although IIRC its like a standard ratchet inside out--meaning the driver is four-sided (square) as opposed to a hexagon in the OP's pic.
