Hello to all

Well After much research (manly from this Forum) have begun to modify my 2012 Yaris LE HB

The first Install so far was the aFe intake and the Micro Image Intake Manifold
Had a slight issue with MAF not fitting the aFe intake but little bit of sand paper and that was fixed. So far only have about 5 days of to and from work on it but there is a noticeable increase in power at lower rpms, Have a crap-o-matic so don't know in what range but still loving it.

Thanks to Jeff at Micro Image for help that was provided and listening to my dumb questions and I will be calling back when bonus shows up next week for the Tanabe Cat back and headers

Now if only there was Semi-Automatic tranny that would fit this thing

Yes I would convert to a manual if was able to but needs to stay as automatic for DMV purposes for now

On this note I have been looking and it seems only one person has done the TB change over with a Third Gen Yaris and had some issues was wondering if any one else had done this as well and did or didn't have issues looking for one now but trying to figure out what to look for as to problems

ok so only have after pictures had thought that it was a pretty easy install so didn't do any pictures
but here they are

Here is one of the things that bothers me so will need to do some modifying to my cover but works for now
http://s27.postimg.org/s2mau3w6r/image.png
The air manifold came with spacers to lift the cover up so wouldn't rub on the manifold but don't like the way it looks so going to pull my dremal out but that can wait

and Just noticed this

Hose is touching will see if can twist that hmmm... anyways

I had a shop do the work, I wasn't going to do it that way but it was on the rack and he gave me a really good price for the work.

So it is now all 2" from the resonator back My new exhaust guy had to cut the connection off the Tanabe muffler because it had 1"3/4 pipe  to connect to my old pipe which became 2"

I will be installing DC headers this weekend

I really want to do the MI Intake Manifold, but have not bit the bullet, the price seems so high. I have the 1ZZ TB so really should be doing this.

scod4025
02-19-2015, 05:26 PM
It is worth it. I have lost a little in my MPG but lots of low end umph

Edit: Should state that the loss of MPG may or may not be from the fact that my foot seems to have gotten a bit heaver. I don't speed per say, just like to get up to speed faster then everyone else around me

Did the car run fine after the manifold install. I might buy this next, will this give you any problems at the smog place?

scod4025
02-20-2015, 11:44 AM
Had no problems with the intake manifold after install. um don't know about smog but I keep all of my factory pieces just incase it's a real easy install like 45mins and I'm back to stock

Ok so started looking into my next mod, Light weight pulleys, fly wheel etc...
and came across some disturbing post so was wondering if there is still issues with the pulleys and such or where these few and far between. Or do you guys think there is a Different Mod I should be looking into

Also have the question of should I Go with a 10% undersize or stick with OEM size.

Trying to scrape out every little bit of HP with out adding F/I (YET)

WorkTL
03-01-2015, 11:07 AM
I would just go with the MicroImage pulley. I noticed the car revs quicker and don't have to worry about it cracking.

WorkTL
03-01-2015, 11:08 AM
Did you get the TB to work?

scod4025
03-01-2015, 02:51 PM
Yes and no It bolted right in but then the aFe intake coupler was a little small and it was hitting the bolts so pulled it all out and put in allen head cap bolts and removed the spacer nut on all the brackets that hold coolant line and wire for TB and seems to be working but don't like the way the wire bracket is sitting might cause a leak in the future also flipped the coolant line bracket around so now my hose doesn't rub against the CAM( see pics for this issues)

Also have a rough Idle for 20 or 30 min but once the car gets to good temp then it goes away(yes I have the high idle for 30sec at first start to) I've been adjusting the Idle screw but cant seem to get it right but will keep playing with it

WorkTL
03-01-2015, 08:25 PM
Do you notice a increase in hp?

fnkngrv
03-01-2015, 09:44 PM
The stock diameter pulley would be the way to go. The intention of the underdrive had been to deliver as much as possibpe since the mod doesn't necessarily give a ton of return on a stock setup. The MI version has been constructed with a better design than the NST and since it is stock size it will not mess with the charging system. This is especially important if you add additonal electrical demand....for example a couple amps to drive an audio upgrade, Heated seat kits, etc. NST doesn't even make a set anymore I do not believe for thw Yaris community and he never answered me when I attempted to talk to him in the last couple years.

scod4025
03-02-2015, 10:06 AM
I noticed a little increase in HP but the biggest difference was the throttle response that got much quicker which was noticeable to me during freeway driving, was able to accelerate so much faster at speed

But... if you haven't done your exhaust you will know it. When I lifted my foot could feel the restrictive flow. Felt like the car was down shifting, this got less pronounced when I went to 2" pipe from the resonator. But its still there ever so slightly think I need to remove resonator. Wish I didn't need the cat but, poor me I live in California  and I would never think of doing anything against the law

fnkngrv
03-02-2015, 10:21 AM
You bring up the point I have been trying to make for years. The pulley swaps may not net you any real power gains, but they get you into the powerband a hell of a lot quicker which translates to better performance and then conversely is totally worth it. It makes the butt dyno happy.

scod4025
03-02-2015, 10:27 AM
:laugh::thumbup:

So with that said will be getting the Pulley this month. Love that quick feel.

or the :eyebulge: isn't that car a gas saver

axiom
03-08-2015, 08:34 PM
So, I just installed the MI intake manifold. Are those spacers for the head cover or to move the radiator hose away from the manifold tubing? I was able to use the stock nuts and bolts to put the head cover back on.

scod4025
03-09-2015, 09:21 AM
To tell you the truth I am unsure, I believe they could be used for either. I used them to lift my cover up off the intake manifold(I could have used stock nuts and bolts but it was touching), but I believe that they could be used for the hose as well, but I just flipped the hose bracket around and it gave me about 1/2" of clearance from the manifold. But I did also remove the stock bolts from around the TB and put in 6mm cap bolts so deleted the nuts that hold the bracket down, which if your still using would give you a little bit more space then what I have

scod4025
03-15-2015, 07:02 PM
Ok so spent all morning on it but finally got the TB dialed in right went from a fluctuating idle to a nice smooth one finally and was at 23mpg while it was off but with the driving I do :burnrubber: jumped back up to 27mpg

Have yet to get the cash together for the new pulley so that is on hold for now

Very nice! Can't wait to see what it puts down, any chance you can run 91 in it with a reset?

scod4025
03-24-2015, 09:16 AM
I would but since I started bolting on its had nothing but 91 in it so wouldn't have an 87 base line for you but will post up the 91 numbers

scod4025
03-25-2015, 10:16 AM
ok here are my numbers
http://s23.postimg.org/lbdsr21tj/Yaris_starting_whp_Internet.jpg (http://postimg.org/image/lbdsr21tj/)

came out as 103.4 WHP
and had to run it a bit rich to get that number I leaned it out and then I couldn't break 100 oh well good baseline to start from

LTHatch
03-25-2015, 02:16 PM
Dang those are good numbers for an auto! How did you add fuel(i didn't see any engine management mentioned in this thread)?

scod4025
03-25-2015, 07:19 PM
its kind of a cheat but with the TB you can adjust the idle stop and if you do it while the car is still running it screws with the ECU learning for a throttle use but only one time shot and only get a little bit of adjustment

was the intake easy to install ?

Installing mine next week :P

scod4025
03-27-2015, 11:05 AM
It was for me. If your mechanically inclined most of the stuff I installed is a fast and easy install, If not will take a little bit longer but everything is straight forward so should be able to figure it out. I also removed the mounting bracket that the stock air box sat on (MAP sensor is zip tied to it) so could get AFE a bit lower and then was able to get AFE bolted to the battery bracket and front frame for stability they didn't mention removing it in the instructions they sent

fnkngrv
03-27-2015, 11:29 AM
Higher octane doesn't give more power it just prevents detonation. Only mention this for people that are unaware. Kind of rare to have reasons for an NA build with stock compression to require an increase in octane rating.

scod4025
03-27-2015, 11:54 AM
Yes just getting myself use to price so when the S/C goes on wont have to alter budget
but I do notice a bit in my mpg maybe a .5 to it that's why I run it

I'm Planning on stripping it as far as I can but still owe a little on it so keeping what I do easily reversible for now, but also looking at doing a full custom interior that I can remove for when its play time (Basically a show car that I can race) and I will get some pictures of the striped back seat in a bit (have to wait till break)

Crank Pulley bought and installed!!!

and just a heads up the DIY for this seems to be gone but easy to figure out but really recommend an impact wrench with torque settings to do this install on a automatic fought it for like ten minutes then got the air hose out and solved the problem

That's awesome! Are you going to remove the seat brackets, seat belts as well? Any chance you can weigh the pieces you removed? I just want to verify my scale is right, rear seat delete with brackets and all seat belts, 60ish lbs off.

scod4025
05-17-2015, 01:05 PM
Hmm now I will have to weigh them as feels heavier then 60lbs.
Thinking about removal of belts but need to install seat once a month so if it is a pain to install them again probably wont but have gotten good at getting seat in and out so might be the same with practice,
on that note is there a torque requirement that anybody knows about for belt anchors or is it just till its tight

LTHatch
05-17-2015, 02:46 PM
Removal of the seat belt is easy, those steel seat brackets take longer to install then the seat belts. Until its tight works fine for me, i'm sure there's a torque spec for it maybe someone can post it if they know.

scod4025
05-29-2015, 01:36 PM
Ok so did one better got my car on a scale so with full tank car weight 2320

But with this scale rounds up to the next ten so if it was 2311 still would be 2320
it was 2490 with me in the car and I was upset as been aiming for 170 for weeks

will go back with some 1 lbs and will get right weight

stripped more of the inside paneling out and did the door panels and removed the seatbelts and the brackets one thing that sucks though is that the speakers in the doors are pop riveted into place so didn't pull those out yet but here are some pictures

Very nice! You can still remove those steel seat brackets on the pillar(2 bolts) for a little more weight loss, also are you planning on removing the radio and all speakers(about 5lbs total) or just the rear speakers?
All that weight out the car feels so much better in 1-3rd gear, now maybe its time for a race battery on yours lol.

For right now going to just be pulling out the rear speakers rest will probably come out when I get done doing the fiberglass back deck as will have stereo in that, That is self contained so easy removal, and yes can remove the seat latches but I forgot about them and then was doing measuring and might use them as an anchor point for side panels in the back deck but will see as haven't got plan fully put together on how I want it to look

Will be getting rid of extra parts that came with the engine, So far it looks like

Throttle body

Exhaust manifold

Stock clutch

Plastic engine cover (slight crack in it)

and if anyone wants the Intake manifold can have it for shipping cost but it got damaged in transit and has a 1 inch hole in number 1 runner
as parts come off will be putting them in the sales area
