I've never really made a "build thread" for my car, mainly because there wasn't a "build", so I figured I should make one.........
First picture I ever took of the car.
http://i.imgur.com/SBLrpVR.jpg
Pretty soon I took off the hubcaps, installed Tanabe DF210 lowering springs, installed a Netz front emblem and gave it a weld-on muffler.
http://i.imgur.com/mLa9IDa.jpg
Bought some used ICW wheels off of a friend.
http://i.imgur.com/SjwtwzC.jpg
Sold the ICW's and bought a set of Prime wheels, and added a Volvo lip to the front.
http://i.imgur.com/77DlIr9.jpg
I then decided she wasn't low enough and cut a few coils off of the Tanabe springs. Sold the Prime wheels, and got some Bottlecaps from a buddy.
http://i.imgur.com/78NIkRN.jpg
Bought an airhorn and compressor to be an :moon:
http://i.imgur.com/TTqweVR.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/5AlLilL.jpg
Sold the airhorn and compressor, and saved up and bought a set of Megan coilovers. Somewhere in here I bought 6" 9k and 4" 7k springs for the Megans. Then I bought a set of Whistler wheels, got fenders rolled and rear pulled about 5mm, -4° rear and -3° front camber with 195/50/15's. Bought a NST tow hook off a member here. Added a OEM style lip spoiler I got off Ebay for $40.
http://i.imgur.com/KKcwcXp.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/FqMb766.jpg
Got rid of the Whistler wheels and the camber because I couldn't get my alignment right, and was eating through tires. Bought another set of Prime wheels (15x7 +36), that had seen much much better days. Spent 40+ hours refinishing them to former glory. I didn't even know they had flat center caps until I bought this set. These are my favorite set of wheels I've had on the car thus far.

Wanting to be lower, but already having a really bad looking sub-frame, I decided air ride was a good idea. Seeing as kits are expensive and I already had coilovers a bag-over setup was the most economical and easiest route. Bought almost everything from Phil on here. UAS Aerosport bags up front with Bagriders threaded coilover brackets, rear is Slam Specialties SS-5 bags with Randode rear brackets. 3 gallon tank with a Viair compressor, 110-145 psi switch, manual paddle valves and 1/4" lines throughout. This is by far the best "mod" I've done to the car so far.

25mm spacers on the rear wheels make them fit nice and tight aired out.

http://i.imgur.com/EgTgZbI.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/DJCFgKn.jpg
And that brings us to the now. There's a list of other stuff I've done to the car but don't have pictures of, or that I've gotten rid of, like: window visors, Works Bell hub and 330mm leather NRG steering wheel, MI aluminum underpanel, Nitto axle-back (sold), front bumper quick-releases, The Stubby Jr. antenna from Craven speed, no name cold air intake, and Led light throughout the car. There's probably more, but I can't remember it right now. Future plans are bigger, "legit" wheels, thinking 17's maybe Work Eurolines or SSR Vienna Kreis, somthing with a lot of "face" to them. RS body conversion, or some sort of kit, not really sure. Repaint, really want to do it a deep purple, something like this.
http://i.imgur.com/FoihOAQ.jpg
I also want to remove the rear seats and replace them with a platform, to hide my air tank and compressor and double my cargo space. At some point in the future I want to change over to analog electronic management for the air ride, and add another tank and compressor. Maybe get another air-horn, just because. Also want a nice head-unit and to upgrade the speakers and add a sub-woofer.
I've owned this car for almost 6 years now, and every day I'm surprised with how much I still love it. I know this thread is a little long, and if you've made it this far, I want to thank you for taking the time to read it. :thanks:
Awesome! Its always amazing to see how some people just drive these cars and some people put their heart and soul into them. I like to think I fit into the latter

I think I fit into the latter also. I know my car isn't winning any shows, but I love it despite its many flaws.

I'm jealous of your super shiny wheels and your paint that looks immaculate.

I thought they looked really good too. Plus they were super light and tires were bone cheap.

I'd love to go the air-ride route, now that I've got other cars I can daily drive. Kits do look super pricey, however.

If you already have coilovers you can get out with bags pretty cheap, just depends on what kind of management you go with. With manual paddle valves you can get a full set up for about $1700, not including the coilovers. I got lucky with Phil selling his stuff and ended up getting everything I needed for about $900.

Absolutely horrible, I don't recommend anyone cutting springs.

Yea, but I don't know what I want to save up and do first, nicer wheels, or change the body and do a repaint....

True, once I got my wheels on, the body damage I have started killing me lol. I'd probably do body first cause the wheels you have right now are still nice.

Thanks guys.
Thought my front end was too plain, so I got a front lip from a CD5 Accord from a junk yard. With a lot of trimming, heating, and zip ties, I think it turned out ok. But now to air out in my driveway I have to park on some 1x4's so it doesn't rip up the lip . Excuse how dirty it is. Also plasti-dipped some eyelids on, not sure if I like them yet.

So I picked these up Saturday. 17x7.5 et40 ASA wheels, not sure the model. They need tires, but I couldn't pass up the super deal I got on them. I might have to run a spacer up front to clear the bags, and I'll more than likely run my 25mm spacers in the rear.

Those are strange and awesome!

Thank you. I scooped them up real quick because I love hard to find funky wheels. Unfortunately hard to find funky wheels are usually expensive.
Test fit the wheels. Don't mind the flat tires, the wheels don't have valve stems. With 205/40's I'd have to run at least a 5mm spacer up front to clear the bag, which jams the bumper off of my fender. I may end up going with 195/45's so the ride would be a little better and I'd have more clearance. The rear is going to be no issue what so ever.
Also, I think I might end up painting or plasti dipping them. Since the paint is pretty scratched up. Any opinions on colors that would look good? I was thinking the Vintage Gold Plasti dip with glossifier.

We have the same color paint and for mine I've always wanted gold with the sparkles in it like wrx/sti wheels

So I have been thinking about this for a few months and I've decided I'm going to get rid of the Yaris. It has served me above and beyond what I needed for 7 1/2 years and I love it, but I don't enjoy driving it anymore. Used to, I would get behind the wheel and a smile would creep on my face no matter what else was going on. Now, I just drive it, no joy, no smiles, just a mode of transportation. It makes me sad that I don't enjoy my car that I've put so much time and effort into. I've decided to part out the car and sell it in a stock state because I'll get more for it and it will be much easier to sell it stock. I've decided I'm going to get another Aircooled VW. My first car was a 1973 Super Beetle and I've always wanted another one, but it was never financially feasible for me to own one due to the maintenance involved in a 50+ year old car. But I have a really good job and I'm making good money to where the cost of daily driving an antique car won't be an issue.
I want to thank everyone in the Yaris community. This is the most friendly and helpful group of people in any car community.

Hey, I can't hold it against you, coheed. I've lost a bit of that loving feeling myself. I think no matter how cool a car is, after 8 yrs w/o driving anything else, it can get a little boring. What's the saying about the hottest girls? I think it applies to cars too.
Making matters worse, I went to the OC Auto Show on Saturday and went on a test drive with my bro-in-law yesterday (he's shopping for a new car). After all that, I've got one foot in a new Civic Si! lol

I've just always regretted selling that VW. Even when the backseat caught on fire going down the interstate it was an immensely fun car. I don't think I've ever had has much fun as driving a 30 something hp VW on a roadtrip.

But CRX's were designed by Honda for Autocross, no? Seriously though, I used to hang out with a guy that had a turbo B15 that would stomp STI's in Auto-X. Those things can be stupid fast because they are so small.

Yes, Yes they are autocross monsters. I started autocrossing with my crx in SSM with a boosted b18 also. (btw, I think you mean either B16,B17,or B20)
I was too new to the sport to actually get any good... When I started in my Yaris, it was like a light just came on. I just started killing it. I feel if I was to go back to the crx, I can really put down some good times again.
Surprisingly I can stop STI's in my yaris.. as long as they are not pro drivers from nationals.

First thing that came to mind from Cars 2:
-"A Volkswagen Karmann Ghia has no radiator."
-"Well, of course it doesn't. That's 'cause it's air-cooled."
-"Course, Karmann Ghias weren't the only ones. Besides the Beetles, you had your Type 3 Squarebacks with the Pancake motors."

So instead of buying a VW, I've decided I'm going to keep the Yaris as a DD and start work on my Jeep Comanche. It's been sitting far too long and it shouldn't take a ridiculous amount of work to get it going again. Plus I miss having a truck. So the Yaris will live on, just in a different form.
