View Full Version : F5 Fujita Cold Air Intake Review

So I just installed my Fujita intake on my Liftback. The installation took longer than I thought since the fitment was tight to say the least. I'll list some quick pro's and con's to start with.

Pros
- Car sounds really sweet under full throttle, but isn't too loud while just cruising.
- Smoother power delivery and seems more peppy up top.
- Lots of extra goodies came with the intake.

Cons
- Squeezing the intake into place is kind of a PITA. I recommend having a friend help you.
- Car is LOUD under full throttle. This can good or bad, depending how you look at it.
- Threw a check engine light. I'll disconnect the battery overnight and see if that gets rid of it. If not, hopefully it'll go away after a week or so once the engine adjusts to the new air readings.

I gotta admit that the intake did have some fitment issues. I'll list them here.

Fitment Issues
- The bottom of the pipe where the filter connect is all kinds of weird, putting the filter on the back of the foglight housing, quite literally. I don't have fogs, but I fear for those that do.
- The small bracket that connects to the vibration reducer was facing the wrong direction. I had to bend it up in the general directionl, then hammer it down onto the rubber reducer thing to get it to fit. This took a majority of the installation time.
- The bottom of the pipe rubs against the splash guard infront of the wheel. I may be able to cut away part of the top of the splashguard without exposing the filter. I'll check it out later on when I have more time.
- The air circulation hose that goes from the intake to the engine is stretched to fit. It would have been nice if Fujita had supplied a slightly longer hose and better connectors.
- The sensor plug that is taken off the stock rubber piping really has no place to rest without clanking against the intake piping. I finally got around to taping it to another hose, but it's stretched a bit. Not enough to make me worry, but enough to mention.
__________________________________________

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the intake. Some small fitment issues, but once all is said and done, the intake has made the car more fun so I figure it's worth the hassle. I would maybe ask Fujita to review the design to ensure that fitment for the both the sedan and liftback is the same, because I think they're somewhat different. I'll try to get some pics later.

I didn't get the check engine.
And yes it was a bitch to get it in.

Check if you got all the wires properly wrapped/tighten up.

We checked twice and everything is tight and where it's supposed to be. I'll double check it again later.

Maybe oil change or touched/slightly unscrewed something that made the light go on.

Make sure the pipe is tight, to the engine. Basically check if everything and firmly in its place..etc etc.. im sure u knew that..sorry if u did...

iight buddy good luck...

I wish I could hear my car drive by...i think im let my friend drive my car so I can hear it this weekend.

Like reading the CONs and FITTMENT issues... I know of another intake that has experienced none of these problems.

Not knockin' your new purchase, glad your overall happy with it Ran.

-- BlenIt's pretty loud outside too. If you roll down the window and launch from a standing start, you'll get the idea. My buddy did a drive-by for me and it sounded pretty good.

EDIT: Cranked the car up this morning and the CEL is gone. I'm happy now.

fitting it was a b@@ch, but i got it to fit. no cutting for me, i didnt have to bend anything. i was too lazy to take off my bumper so more work for me. i did pop a cel but scangauge took kare of that. i like the growl at wot, but can get noisy at times, therefore i think i want a quiet exhaust.

does the scan gauge give you a number before you get to clear the code? If so, what was the number?

Yea I know...it took me about half hr to it in.

I didn't take any bumper off, I just slided the pipe from the bottom thru the splast guard that I didn't take off also..several scratches (i got wrinkle black hehehe no noffin)...it was a fun experience. everythign was just common sense, like a puzzle of some sort.

And yes sometimes I think its been loud, but the wind sound goes with it so I like it.
Are tanabe's catback exhaust quiet?
Let me know which exhaust u get.

I got the Blitz NuR Spec coming in this week and I expect it to be obnoxiously loud like my Mazdaspeed was. I'll try to get a video clip.

does the scan gauge give you a number before you get to clear the code? If so, what was the number?

Here are the 2 codes pulled by the MSD DashHawk after installing my Fujita:

DTC 1 of 2

P0102: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Ciruit Low Input.

--Description-- The MAF sensor circuit is monitored by the PCM for low air flow (or voltage) input through the comprehensive component monitor (CCM). If during key ON engine running the air flow (or voltage) changes below a minimum calibrated limit, the test fails.

DTC 2 of 2

P0113: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Circuit High Input.

--Description-- Indicates the sensor signal is greater than Self-Test maximum. The IAT sensor maximum is 4.6 volts or -50 degrees C (-58 degrees F).

All I did was reset the ECU (unplug neg bat cable for 5+ mins, step on brake a few times) computer relearns airflow for the bigger tube, no more engine light

You won't need to remove the bumper but removing the splash guard will make it a little easier. By the way I had no cutting or fitment issues however the rubber hose is stretched a tad. I have no idea how often to clean the filter but I got an extra filter as part of the deal.

yeah i was looking down there today, and i think all i need is to remove the wheel, and splash guard, then i can try to fit it in there. I don't know if my come with an extra filter or not, cause i'm only paid $170 dollars for it.

This is standard procedure for mild bolt ons. Thank you for posting up the information though! Much appreciated.

I am looking forward to receiving my CAI from wesellcarparts soon. I will post up my impressions of installation/CELs/power/etc.

so you removed the baatttery and then step on the brake, or put the battery plug back then step on the brake?

Remove the cable, then step on the brake pedal several times to remove all residual power from your vehicle's electrical system. Once the battery is reconnected, it will relearn.

I've heard your to do this with additions like CAI and headers, I didnt and have never had a CEL come on, I guess I was lucky.

I just got my fujita today, haven't install them yet, but the intake tube look like it's only. 2.5 inch right every one?

I finnaly got a chance to install this Fujita replace it with my xlr8 intake, it's a bitch to install it. Very disapointed.
Xlr8 Short Ram Intake from Ebay way much smoother, don't make any loud noises. The good thing about fujita is you got more stuff.
Xlr8 look kindda cheap, since it's no brand name.
and since their tube is only 2.5 inches. the fujita make very nice noise (i like it)
I did took pictures of both of them, got a little videos from them, test drive them from 0 - 60, i will post them up soon.

your CEL will reset it's self after a few key turns after the problem has been solved.... no need to be unhooking your batters and have to reset all your radio stations.... just start and turn off your car like 5 times or so, I think it took when I threw a CEL after trying to modify my intake...

Hey all,

Installed my F5 Fujita CAI a couple of days ago... I found that the install was very simple. I did not have to remove my bumper, only the bottom splash guard and I also had to move the wheel well splash guard out of the way after the car was jacked up and driver's side front wheel was removed. It took a total of 45 minutes.

Looks great!!!!!!! I will post up my driving impressions later...I haven't had a chance to take it out for a spin yet.

Go to the wesellcarparts vendor post in the appropriate forum. There was a sale until the end of May that ended up being Cdn$250 + brokerage $90 = $340...

I just took it for a test drive and I would say that it has certainly improved the high end a little bit (above 4000). The sound from 6000-6500 is SICK!!! :eyebulge:  I wish I had another 2000 rpm of that sound! I did not really notice any loss of low end power since there is so little to begin with...

I think you would likely feel more of an improvement if you had the stock wheels.

Cheers again
