Stock size with wider wheels compatibility?

Hi,

I recently bought a used 2013 Toyota Yaris LE that came with stock size tires 175/65/r15 (Bridgestone Turanza) and according to what I looked up the stock wheels are 5.5 in width. I'm interested in changing up the wheels and am looking at either the the Konig Lace or Maxxim Maze, both of which are 15x6.5. Would they be compatible with the tires that currently have? How would it effect handling, fuel efficiency, wear, etc? I tried Googling this but couldn't get a "clear" answer.

According to the data on tire rack, a 175 is only intended to be mounted on 5-6" rims. You would be stretched a little bit--which is not ideal--but some people do it on purpose for aesthetics. If the tires still have lots of life on them, I'd keep them as a set of winters until they wear out and get a dedicated set of summer tires on the new ones. Be careful though, it's a slippery slope. I think I now have more sets of tires than my wife has shoes...=)

Recommended wheel width for 175/65/15 is 4.5"-6.5".
You will be absolutely fine with 175's on a 6.5" rim.

I don't think I should count the ones that are bald or flat (but still mounted) against my count--in the same way she doesn't count worn out shoes in hers. =)

Winter wheels (1 set)
Race wheels (1 set, tires almost dead; 1 set unmounted)
Summer wheels (1 set, tires almost dead)
OEM steelies (at least one set, various states of mounted and dead)

That makes 5+ currently. Do I have to count her OEM wheels too, since she has a Yaris?

1 set Michelin defenders 195/60/15 mounted with tpms on OE steelies 25k miles
And a spare bent oe steelie I plan on getting repaired. I have bent 2 so far replaced both from the dealer @125 a rim about a year apart

1 set flipped toyo r1r on some random 5 spoke aftermarket alloys 195/50/15
2 bfg a/s super sport and 2 dead khumo a/s on vw OE steelies 195/60/14

And soon to be more I keep taking the free tires other members of the local scca post up on the fb page. In theory I have a set of take off direzza z2 star spec coming my way and some a/s

Oh and anything that bolts up counts, so your wife's rims makes 6 lol

They will be stretched but someone could make it fit. A regular tire shop probably won't do it you may have to know somebody. Again if you go on tire rack and look at specifications for a tire of the same size it will tell you the manufacturers spec for rim widths if you are within a half inch of the max specs it should fit no problems just a little snug

Everyone will suggest you stick within those specifications if you don't want to sacrifice handling and ride quality and proper use whatnot

I have 175 55 on a 8" wheel and the stretch is very mild.

I will be running 155 60 on 8" wheels as soon they arrive from Japan.

185's fit rim width 4.5"-7.0".

You should be able to get them on a 7.5" rim without much difficulty, but you begin to compromise handling when you push the limits.

Thanks for the link. I have been looking for something like that. And I actually have 195s and not 185s so it looks like it will work no problem.
