2008 Yaris YR Hatch, radio not working ?

Hi,

After the car was involved in a small side accident the radio stopped working (This could be a coincidence). The CD Player works and plays cds fine. Only FM/AM doesn't work. There is no sound/static or anything and changing the volume doesn't affect anything.

I have done the following so far and it has made no difference.

1. Disconnect battery for a while.
2. Checked that all the connectors to the head unit are properly connected.

Any ideas ?

That is very strange, as you would expect the mechanical device to be more likely to have been damaged than the radio tuner. The antenna is amplified and the antenna wire and power wire for the amplifier run to the right side of the dash, up the right side A pillar and along the right side of the roof back to the antenna. It is possible that those wires were damaged, but when the antenna is disconnected you still get static for the radio.

Remember my car is RHD but as I saw the antenna cable from radio I would assume it also goes up the right hand side. I had a look under the dash and I couldn't see the wire anywhere.

Even with the antenna removed I get no static. However, tonight I had static for the first time what the ? I turned the ignition off and back on and the static again was gone, just pure silence. CD player still works and all 4 speakers work.

I wonder if something in the head unit might have died ?
