can you confirm the spring rates for these springs please? i recall you posted in the other post, that the rear springs for the DF's are actually softer than the NF's.

Spring rates are as follows:

Hatch
Fr Rr
3.0 / 2.2

Sedan:

There are two versions of the tanabe springs mentioned above. There are three types offered for a lot of different vehicles with varying spring rates. Do either of the mentioned drop springs have the highest spring rate of 20-30% - this would be the set I want, any help is much appreciated.

johnnyfive

tanabe website has all the information you are asking for in thier application charts.. NF210 (http://www.tanabe-usa.com/springs/spring_applications.asp?id=2) and DF210 (http://www.tanabe-usa.com/springs/spring_applications.asp?id=1)
DF210 for max drop, and NF210 for max comfort with reasonable drop

edit: and yes, the website lists the same springs for the sedan, and the hatch

Ron
06-13-2006, 11:04 AM
so the DF spring rate is f/r: 3.0/2.2 and the NF spring rate is f/r: 2.5/2.2. Same rates in the rear for both springs, despite a half inch greater drop for the DF's. Any thoughts on why??

The difference is the drop height.

Look at the pictures above, and you will see the amount of drop each kit will give, from your stock height.

TDF121 - Front 1.6" / Rear 1.8"

TNF121 - Front 1.1" / Rear 1.3"

different amout of work goes into making the springs act accordingly on your car at different ride heights, and that is what you pay for

ok thanks

why is the lower one 20 bucks more?

for TDF121 - Front 1.6" / Rear 1.8",
does it require different shocks than stock?

DF210- "Dress-up Form"- maximum drop- relatively simple spring to attain maximum drop with only up to 10-15% increased spring rate.

NF210- "Normal Feeling"- maximum comfort- a little more advanced spring to attain maximum comfort with a "tasteful" drop. up to 5% increased spring rate.

so that's probably the reason to why the NF210 is a bit more expensive while offering a less noticable drop. same thing with tein springs (s-tech vs. h-tech springs).

any word if the yaris is going to get the GF210 "Grip Feeling" springs? it slots in between the DF210 and NF210 in terms of drop height, but the spring rate is up to 30% over stock springs.

anywaiz, to answer the other question- all three of the springs (NF, DF, and GF) are designed to work with the oem shocks, but tanabe reccomends that the GF210 be used with a performance shock for "full potential".

So you don't feel comfortable with the DF spring & OEM shocks combination? Or you're ok??

"Its the same comfortable feel as oem suspension, but when cornering hard, or switch lanes quickly, its nice and firm.. reacts tight and feels awesome."

Tanabe has told me over the phone they were designed to be used with the oem shocks/struts and sway bar end links.............. <--- There's the "blue in the face" statement again.

I went with the df210s, prob should have gotten the nf210s; as high amounts of snowfall might be easier to drive through with a higher clearance. Then again if its really that bad i'll just drive my blazer (should i still have it)

I'll post pics of the install, before/afters when i've got them installed.

Just a quick question, do you need to do the alignment after you installed the spring? Or once you put on the springs, you're good to go on the street?

I have yet to go for one. Tires after 8,000 miles still look good as new.

Some will say its a must, some wont worrie at all. Some car/trucks absolutly NEED one after any lower/lifting, but so far everythings perfect on the Liftback.

bigsky2

If the drop is greater than 2", it's safe and smart to get the car aligned.

Less than 2", not necessary but also safe/smart thing to do if you have the time.

I can't wait to put them on this weekend! Jay's a great guy and so is his buddy that was at the store at the time. And I'm not just saying that because he's a Miata guy! BTW, in case anyone else here has a Miata too, Jay's working on getting Miata stuff! Woohoo! Anyhow, I'll make sure to take before and afters of the spring install.

ok, question - would you guys rather lower your car now or get rims first? - cause I'm planning to get rims some 17" ones - but I'm not to sure which springs I should get to fit it properly with the 17" - also I will be putting in some equipment in my car sometimes, which will add extra weight so I don't want it to rub

ChinoCharles

Lower it first so you don't end up putting 10k miles on some new rims and tires before you realize they're too big for your suspension.

I have 17" Konig Reasons on 215/40 Khumo's and Im getting rubbing with my NF210 springs installed:frown:

When its just me in the car, I only get rubbing in the rear whenever I hit a dip at around 40mph+ . And I had two lightweight women in the back seat and there was constant rubbing in the rear.
I did some research on these springs and tire/wheel sizes before I purchased and I thought I would be okay but I guess I was wrong. Just wanted to put this out there in case any other sedan owners might be thinking about this set up. Also, are there any suggestions to fix this problem? Since I will be the only person in this car most of the time, Its not a big issue, Ill just have to slow down more on the bumps/dips.

Thanks:
