Our streets are jammed with Corolla's.
I'd guess that the Yaris Sedan has been more popular in Ontario than the hatch. Toyota must have felt an impact when they dropped the sedan. Some folks, including my wife, would have nothing to do with the hatchback.

I would be in that group about not having anything to do with the LB. I have seen plenty that are cool and nice, but the egg just isn't for me. That being said, the new Yaris sedan is a Corolla platform so I am a bit confused.

? We certainly have Corollas. It would make more sense if they took the latest Vios and brought that here and called it a Yaris sedan.

That is what I am saying. The Vios overseas IS the Altis elsewhere. The Altis is what they call the Corolla in NA. I have a friend in the military that has pretty much confirmed this fact.

Well, there IS a version of the Yaris Sedan in UAE with the 1.5L engine. Perhaps that one is coming over?
I mean, local dealer won't announce it before it's even confirmed by Toyota Canada right? I'm just hoping there will be a cheap version, under 13k to compete with other cars.
Anyways, I'm already liking the front end.

The latest Corolla is ugly ugly ugly, cheap-looking, and strangely proportioned from most angles - most especially the goofy-looking S model (at least to me). It also appears too narrow and tall for its width - while the new Camry seems to get that particular aspect just right at least. I would gladly pay more for a smaller Yaris sedan (assuming I like the look/proportions) just to have a car that isn't an eyesore to me personally - plus some people just prefer smaller cars. I cringe every time I see the new Corolla, Civic, or Fit on the road, lol.

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of the latest Yaris Sedans either that I have seen in various international (non-USA) pics - the 2007-2011 version looks better IMO. The Mazda2 sedan is much nicer looking (the one before the new 2016 Kodo design), however, and its a real shame that Mazda never brought it to the USA (instead of a stripped-version HB) - since that would probably be the only way that I would buy a Mazda.

I was told earlier this year by a Toyota salesperson that the new Yaris sedan will be built on the Mazda 2 platform in Mexico. It will be available in Canada in September this year.

Yeah, I was just talking to Laz and he confirmed. He said that it is shifting from what is currently the way it is. Apparently they are bringing it very possibly as the Yaris sedan in Canada yet as a Scion in the US. My response; Toyota is really convoluting the market with craziness all in the name of the almighty yen.

To me a solid reason to stay away from it personally. If I want a Mazda then I would buy a Mazda. Why does Yota think in order to make the Yaris competitive they need to use another brand's mill?

Much nicer looking/proportioned than the 2016 Mazda2 hatchback version - minus the fugly allow wheels. It's a shame that it will probably never see the USA market, and Mazda will continue to focus on the Mazda3 here, just like Toyota would rather focus on the Corolla for their mainstream "numbers sold" game.

Sorry, but I just don't see how you can actually call this a Scion/Toyota. It has the heart of Mazda and body as well as underpinnings if Mazda. How can it even be considered anything but a rebadged Mazda2?!?

I like the look of the new Scion iA overall (since it is a a Mazda2 sedan), but I'm still not a fan of the gaping sci-fi front grill area (no fog light housings?). The front of the Mazda2 sedan looks far better, not surprisingly. At this point, it looks to be a toss-up for me between a 2009-2011 Yaris sedan (white, still first choice), a 2016 Scion iA (black), a 2015 Yaris SE Hatch (black), or possibly a 2016 manual Honda HR-V (white) when I finally purchase my next vehicle towards the end of the year.
