Hi Everyone,
My 2008 Yaris is coming up on 135K miles. I think it's time for a new battery and maybe a muffler, but what else should I be thinking about?
New hoses?
I have time for new trans fluid. What else do you guys think? Plugs were done a little while ago. Car runs really good. :iono:

most of the things you mentioned generally do not need to be replaced unless they are broken/damaged. Mufflers tend to last longer than that and my '02 Echo still has all of the original hoses on it and they're in great shape and still very pliable. I would do some of the following, or at least inspect:
-control arms bolts L&R
-coolant change
-trans fluid
-inspect the shocks/struts for leaking, see how they're handling
-Clean PCV valve
-Spray some corrosion protector on all of the exposed bolts underneath the car.
-Replace upper exhaust gasket (the one just below the head)
-Your alternator has a metal male bolt sticking out of it just above the connector. Cover that in dielectric grease and reconnect the wire. It will save you from having to replace the alternator down the road because it rusted and snapped (ask me how I know)
-change your serpentine belt
Can't think of anything else at the moment

The muffler, while it is made of stainless steel, the pipe that is directly behind the muffler is not. Mine has rusted through at the last hanger and made a hole on the pipe.

I put my car up on ramps twice a year and crawl around under it looking for problems.
I dont change the auto trans fluid in my vehicles. Id change the MT oil per the manaul if I had one.
In general consult the OM and follow what it says to do. They know more about the car than anyone else.
