Guys, what type of Engine oil do you use in your car? Semi, full or mineral?
And if so, what is ur servicing interval (I know that toyota recommends 10km).

I use semi synthetics shell helix. And do servicing at 8,000km interval.
I am planning to move to full synthetic shell helix ultra soon and do servicing at same interval 8,000km...want the best for my engine...!
But heard lots of things concerning leaks when using full synthetics...

Hey there! There is a forum dedicated to oils and I think you will find a lot of information (or should I say opinions) on oil. I have never seen a seen a complaint about engine leaks with our motors while tuning synthetics. I run royal purple full synthetic with the OEM or K&N oil filter. Trying to get the most lifetime out of my baby. Just ticked over to 99000 miles. Also I chasing my oil every 3-5 thousand miles.

Its a modern car so i use modern oils, oil of choice Mobil1 full synthetic changed at 10K kilometer intervals. Car has 200K and to date has only required regular maintenance.

I have taken my Yaris to the dealership where I bought my car for every oil change since my purchase date in 2010, and they told me if you are punctual about your service intervals, there is no reason to use synthetic. Therefore, I always opt for conventional oil. I change my oil every 5,000 miles/6 months, just like the Owner's Manual dictates.

well, I am using semi-synthetic for 4 years already and I can say that when my odometer reach 5,000 miles (8,000 Km equivalent), my engine oil has darkened quite a lot... say; when I first service the car, the oil color is brownish transparent ... and at 5,000 miles it is moderate brown but not dark...
So obviously, mineral oil at 5,000 miles will be much worse and quite a stretch for the car... (?)!
But it is interesting and impressive that many guys here still trust mineral oil's ability.

I know there is a forum which has copy-pasted information from another site but which provides a lot of useful information :

Mobil 1 5W30 Full synthetic here, because it makes me feel like a responsible car owner. The Yaris saves me that much in gas, I might as well treat it.

Note: I have no proof to show you that this oil does anything better for these cars.

Right, service interval. 8000 km/ 6 months is reasonable to me. Any further and I feel bad for Yaris. Any shorter and it's wasting my time.

General internet consensus (however credible that is) dictates that your oil change frequency affects your engine more than your choice of synth vs conventional.

Regarding leaks.. Better to fix the leak, not change the oil to accommodate it?

Well here in Bay Area California, Go to any quick change oil place for 5w-30 oil (bulk) and you are going to get Semi-synthetic regardless of who's name is on the bulk tank. Most likely because of the high degree of reprocessed used motor oil going into the bulk supply system. In most cases its also an ILSAC GF-5 rated oil,. Which is good. But self certified I'm strongly considering switching to Eneos motor oil. Pricey but at least you know what you are getting what you paying for. Reuse, repurpose, recycle, It may be great oil, but who knows one batch to the next.

Another Mobil 1 5W30 user. I use Extended Performance and change my oil once a year. Typically that's about 7000 to 8000 miles per year, my 5-1/2-year old Yaris has just under 40,000 miles.

I feel that I need a stout oil because the Yaris does a lot of short trips (less than 3 or 4 minutes) but it also does a few highway trips.

My dealer uses the recommended Toyota Genuine Motor Oil 0W20 (U.K.). 1.33 litre petrol(gasoline) "Optimal Drive", whatever that is!
Service interval is 10,000miles/12 months whichever comes soonest.
