Being extended to include the Vitz. Looks like possibly Gen1 and early Gen2s.

'Toyota, Japan's biggest automaker, said it would recall just under 5 million Corolla, Vitz and other models, mostly in Japan and Europe.

Many of the models were built between March 2003 and November 2007, and include 1.36 million to be recalled in Japan.'

Then this would affect some 2007 US models too, right?

Who knows. There is no telling when or why a manufacturer sources different parts for builds destined for various markets.

Darn, and I just dealt with local dealer on the Spiral cable and seat adjustor recall. Oh well mine is a 2009, maybe I'll get lucky.

Honda today adding close to 5 million more vehicles to the recall. What a fiasco for Takata. Around 36 million in total recalls and counting.

And some more added today;

'As part of that effort, Toyota is recalling 300,000 vehicles sold in high-humidity U.S. states and territories, including the 2005-2007 Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra and 2005-2007 Lexus SC, as well as the 2005-2007 Pontiac Vibe made for General Motors Co <GM.N>.

Toyota is also recalling 177,000 2003-2004 Tundra and 2004 Sequoia, as well as 160,000 2004-2005 RAV4.'

Can you believe my better half took her 2011 Honda Accord in for service and they told her about the airbag recall and ordered a replacement for her?

She got the call yesterday saying it's in and she can bring the car by to have them swap it out - while I'm over here staring at an interim notice letter from Toyota.

Edit/Update: Just dropped the Honda off for the airbag swap and they confirmed that they are installing an Autoliv airbag. A Google search of that brand brings up a few links about Autoliv coming out on top in light of Takata's fail. Now I'm wondering if Toyota will also install Autoliv's in our cars, or wait for Takata to produce something new.

Call 800-331-4331 and tell the nice lady (actual human) your Yaris' VIN.
I was told not to let anyone sit in the Hatchback's front passenger seat, and recall was pending wait for instructions. Also that my center pillar insulation removal was done but not the seat tracks and spiral cable...or power windows master switch, if I had one.

Been there, done that. They tell me they have no plans to go outside of Takata for a fix (as of now). Also looking like they're working with Takata to replace just the inflator or inflator assembly. No plans (as of now) to look to other manufacturers for replacement parts or entire airbags. Based on that, it sounds like it's going to be a while.

I'm happy Honda ditched Takata for Autoliv and were able to remedy the situation for my better half's Accord, but I'd like to have my Yaris taken care of sooner than later, too.

I am still surprised to hear that so many Yaris have Takata airbags. All of the ones I have taken apart (07, 08 and 09) have had Daicel Safety Systems airbags, made in Tyogo, Japan.

How interesting. From my reading, Daicel is one of the smaller manufacturers. Wish I would have gotten one!

So, my brother-in-law has a cousin with a early 2000's BMW 3 series. He was recently involved in a collision and below is the pic he sent my bro-in-law some time after the incident.

Yes, yes that is some piece of the Takata airbag assembly stuck in his door panel. He also told my bro-in-law that several pieces of plastic struck him in the neck. Needless to say, everyone is thankful it didn't turn out worse. For those brushing off the Takata airbag recalls on our cars as a slim chance, I remind you that no one thinks it's going to happen to them --until it does.

^ Nasty.

Just got my letter from Toyota Canada moments ago indicating they have now completed 'parts preparations' and I can now book an appointment to remedy my situation.

The recall has spread to Yaris NSP130 in Europe starting with our first model years 2011.

Keep in touch with your dealers for information about recalls , Airbag ECUs in some models are affected too.

Yes, I received a letter some weeks ago advising that my 2014 Yaris was affected. Originally it didn't affect my year.
According to the letter I now have to wait until contacted again, no time estimate. This is such a large recall, not just Toyota, meaning demand is outstripping supply for replacements.:frown:

The mail I received says they will contact again when they have the parts to do the recall.
I wonder if it would be safer to just disable the bag for now. Haha

So you haven't gotten the second letter yet? I received the initial recall letter in February, and the second letter stating they are ready last week of April.

it took close to 3 hours.
Not exactly sure if that is the time it takes to do the job or my dealer is very slow.

If I'm not mistaken, they do have to remove the entire dash. Won't be a necessarily quick job that's for sure.

I got the letter a couple months back. I am not looking forward to this situation at all. I have heard several stories of dealerships effing up people's dashes. I am still needing to get Tiamat on the road for the year and registered here in TX as it is so it will still be a bit. Then there is the situation with the roll cage and Kirkey seat. I have no idea if the dealership here will pitch a fit.

I've been getting letters about this for at least 18 months. Until recently due to work there was only a handful of days a year i didn't need my car. I really need to get this done though. I have two other recalls pending on my car on top of this.

My car just had the airbag recall done (passenger side) and they only had the car for 4 hours - and washed it inside and out.

Got mine done today. 75 minutes from check in to checkout.

Sadly they did manage to scratch my radio bezel.

Didn't notice it till I was most of the way home. It is one of the DDIN bezels that Scott had shipped in from Denmark years ago.

My dealer has always done right by me.

Went and spoke with them. They will be using an independent operation called Trim Medic to refinish the piece for me.

Recalls for airbags and power window mater switch just got in effect in Montreal apparently. Called in two weeks ago and was informed that my car had both recalls waiting. 3 months ago when I checked, no recalls.

The tech told me about 1.5 hours for both. I'll try to get an appointment soon.

I guess I'll just take off my glossy black radio bezel before giving them the keys, as well as emptying all of the glove boxes and such.

Quoted 2-3 hours for the job to get done and it ended up taking 2. I was hoping that I could get lucky like some of you guys and have it ended up taking less time. Either way, finally done.
