New Yaris?

I keep hearing from several media outlets that the next model Yaris will be a Mazda 2. I know Toyota is now making the Yaris is France and they updated the exterior and interior. I'm in a lease right now and will be out of the lease in July 2016. I'm already shopping around. I personally am interested in a new Yaris, but not interested in a Mazda made Yaris. Anyway, does anybody have any idea how long this current Yaris will be made before Mazda makes the new Yaris?I can't find anything on the Internet. Thanks!!

Only the sedan will be a Mazda. It will be a Scion in the States. So you won't see a new year is per say.

There is a lot of rumors that the third Scion to be announced this Fall will be a rebadged Toyota Aygo. I could live with that, but I know a Yaris is bullet proof. I miss having a Yaris. My new Avalon Limited is too fancy for me. Too much gas and the $600 payment is too much. I want something simpler. And I don't want a Honda Fit unless I am pressed to the wall. Nice enough cars, but not as reliable as the Yaris, and I have had 2 Fits. And the current Fit is hideous.

YES it is, but sadly I dislike the look of the latest generation Civics (both coupe and sedan) and Corollas even more.

I actually like the look of the 2015 Yaris SE, minus those awful alloy wheels, but the L/LE not-so-much, due to the different/cheaper materials/design on the gaping front black maw, no fog lights, the bland headlights, and the standard 15" wheels/tires (which don't look adequate on the 2012+ boxier design IMO).

I do really like the blue dashboard of the Fit too. But not enough to get past that body. I don't think the Fit is selling like it used to either. I know Honda is bringing the Civic hatchback over from the UK where sales are tepid as hell. They are at 50 percent working capacity. I heard Honda is wanting to bring 30-40k Civic hatches over to the US starting next year. I've had a few Hondas. A couple of Fits and an Element. All bought new. Had small things go wrong with them. Went back to Toyota and can't see myself going anywhere else, unless I have to. I like Subaru, but they are hit or miss on quality. Wish they'd bring back the Justy.

Also, I would NEVER buy a Honda/Acura with an automatic, so it would always have to be a manual. Plus, I would buy a manual 2016 HR-V before ever getting a Fit. Truthfully, the only modern Honda/Acura that even appeals to me any more would be a first-generation (2012-2014?) Acura ILX 6-speed manual - which is really just a more-conservative looking Civic Si sedan wearing a Tuxedo (they are built on the same platform). But, by the same token, I am just not interested anymore in spending more than 20K for transportation - so I guess its a good thing that I actually prefer subcompact and compact type cars.

My first car was a 1982 Accord Hatchback LX, followed by a Prelude Si, CRX Si, Integra White LS, Integra Black GS, Civic Hatchback Si, Civic Sedan Si, and Accord Sedan EX. Never had any major issues with any of them, outside of reoccuring power-window headaches in certain ones. The manual transmissions were slick and flawless in all of them, and make me hesitant to try a Yaris in manual based on many of the negative/lackluster things that I have heard about them. :frown: I will have to test drive one before I can really decide though.

I heard for 2015 the Yaris had a new, improved clutch installed in it. My past Yaris wasn't bad, wasn't as smooth as my Fit. Killed it in 1st gear one too many times. Other than that, never had a problem. And I know the Yaris vehicles are pretty indestructible except for an occasional water pump. That's the ONLY negative I've ever heard about the Yaris. And that's few and far between.

Cheap, simple cars aren't popular in this country, and the Yaris is just that. Every car seems to evolve...get bigger, more techno-complicated, and....costlier.
Every car except the Yaris...a victim of its own success. I too prefer simple, reliable cars with less to go wrong. Scion xD and Yaris and theyve been bulletproof.

Scion is, in my estimation, what Toyota USED to be. Right down to the country they are built in.

There is definitely a market for cheap cars in the US. The Chevy Spark has been selling VERY well, and I believe the Nissan Versa Versa Note has been doing quite well. I think Toyota hasn't really updated the Yaris too much and let it get stale. I personally am very happy with the slight redesign of the interior and exterior of the 2015 Yaris, and the public has been somewhat happy. Although sales are still slow, I did read that sales are up almost 50 percent for the 2015 Yaris. I know the Yaris is a few thousand dollars more than both the Spark and Versa Note, but the reliability and quality are worth it to me. Unfortunately, to most Americans who buy the economy cars, they are happy to save $2-3k on a cheaper, and much less reliable car than the Yaris. And maybe if Toyota added come "cute" colors like the Spark they might get a few more buyers.
For some reason people love bright green and yellow exterior paint jobs in this segment.

Hmm...interesting. Except for the 'straight on side view', I like Kar98's pictures of the Civic on this thread :thumbsup:. Is there a 3-door hatch in that lineup?.....A manual transmission?

Call me crazy, but I actually like the looks of the '15 Fit :eek::biggrin:....batter than previous Fit models, IMO. I just wonder about quality issues (some apparently noticed by owners), and MPG with a manual.

I read and suppose to be confirmed that the Civic Type R will be coming to the states. If this happens, I am sorry, but yaris is going back to stock and that type R will be in the garage and on the track every chance I get
