I've found myself in a Hertz Yaris for the next 4 days. Heading to a Ford event in Tulsa, and didn't think my hot rod was up to a quick trip (the original meandering pilgrimage was out of the question once td Bill entered the picture).

2015 base 4dr auto. 2000 total miles. I'm anxious to compare to my 2009 base 3dr 5speed.

I'm looking forward to your report. I drove a 2015 base auto for about 20 minutes the other day. I was surprised that even the base has power windows and locks (no mirrors). I thought the suspension was a bit tighter on the 15 than my 07. The interior trim was very nice, and overall the car felt slightly more refined... but not really better. It was odd trying to see the speedo through the steering wheel. Thankfully, you don't have to look at that big ugly grille when you're driving the car.

I'm looking forward to your report.

I am as well. If that 2015 base 4-door was available with a manual (as it is in Canada ), and with the USDM SE's interior (in Black) with a white exterior......that would be too much to resist . I'd trade in my 2014 for that.

Ditto. These cars are made in France right?

If something happens to my 09 Im definitely going used. Too many good used ones out there. But I will check out the French Yari and see what I think. I don't think I would like the speedo in my line of vision and I want the drivers glove box too.

Friggin' love the drivers glove box!

Too bad it's not a manual, so you could see if you like the updated manual transmission. Driving an auto when you're so used to a clutch probably won't be nearly as enjoyable.

Check out CARGURUS.COM. They very well may have that configuration for yah. I use that website every day. It's super handy.

It is my understanding that the SE seats, both style and color, and the dash, etc. colors are unique to the SE....and that the 3rd Gen manual 5-door L has never been available new in the United States....but I'll definitely check out CARGURUS.COM .

Its extremely solid and well built. Absolutely love the wiper. Excellent directional stability (freeway manners).

^^^ When I first saw that huge wiper, I thought it had been borrowed from a Greyhound bus. But, I was impressed with how well it actually worked!

The polarizing front design of the 2015 has really grown on me over the months since its debut - though I prefer it with the SE headlights and black front materials/design versus the L/LE versions. Also, most front-angled, closer-up pictures that you see online for the 2015 Yaris doesn't do it justice due to camera distortion, and really does make it look strange.

If you want really crazy bad front-end designs, go check out the 2016 Scion iA, and even the iM to a lesser degree. Ughhh.

Its a shame the front doesn't match the back.

The Juke Nismo rs i rented last month was very cohesive.

And so is my 09 3dr.

I would have to agree with you. The new body style is very European. I personally have always liked small European looking cars, so this body style is right up my alley. I especially really like it in white. I was partial to the blue for awhile, but the white is so clean and fresh looking. And the new, updated interior is very nice. Not so much hardened plastics. And sales are up nearly 50 percent, so people are liking it. Sales are still slow, but an increase is always good.

Dash unreadable at mid day. Thats pretty poor design. Banner tint might fix this.

No tach . I wonder if the fellow base L, but in the 3-door configuration with a manual, has a tach.

100% Agree!

I can honestly say now that the only thing I really don't like about the 2015 SE are those alloy wheels (especially with white) - but that is easily remedied at least. Hopefully, if I manage to snag a white 2015 SE in the next 4-6 weeks, I can find someone to buy those OEM alloys off me for a decent price, and fund the 16" wheels that I want to replace them:

Just turned it in.
4 days. 1141 miles driven. 32.6mpg. Mostly at 80. $88.10otd
Likes:
Seats
4 short doors
Solid straight line stability (markedly better than 09 3doir without and with trd sway bar)
VERY QUIET
Exceptional sound system. Easy to use blue tooth.
When i get in car...blue tooth is automatic. Can my 2013 f150 do that? I cant figure how.
Far more solid than my well built 09 (who'd a thought! )
Dislikes
Mirrors look fancy enuff to be electric but aren't
Poverty carpets
Can't roll front windows down when moving due to buffeting
Front doesn't match back (take one design philosophy or the other)
Right calf rubs on console constantly
Cruise-less
Glare on instruments (designer should fall on his sword)
No center armrest

I think that's it. Wish Toyota would make a 'FiestaST' Yaris.

Ps....a 140mph speedo is really dumb. And it makes the speedo harder to read.
120 is more than enough for 99% of us.

Except for lame marketing reasons, I never did understand why cars in the USA have a speedometers that reads over 120 - especially cars in this "commuter" class.

I'm not sure what you mean by the front/back design disparity. I guess that falls into "the eye of the beholder" category.

I'm not a fan of that big black plastic "filler" section on the side of the car, in front of the side-view mirrors - especially on a non-black car. Also not a fan of the shape of the fog-light housings (especially when empty) - which look worse than any other ones on the 2007-2014 Yaris.

Anybody know if the new SE comes with a temperature guage? I'm figuring it wouldn't, since the SE comes with a tachometer.

Especially agree with the seats, solid straight line stability (especially given the crappier + skinnier tires), and just the right amount of 'quietness'.

{P.S. Thinking 2nd Gen owner spending a few days with a '3rd Gen'....unsure if the 2015 has the same tire size as the 2014)

Back in my 09 Yaris with 131000 miles today. Mine feels quicker and more agile. That also makes it more nervous in on the road manners.

Funny...my phone charger has the same 'wiggle to work' feature in either...they're obviously using the same cigarette lighter. It's rock solid in every other car o have used it in.

On another note. ..test drove both a new 2015 non-Recaro FiestaST and an Abarth this afternoon.

I'm thinking the 2015 L has the same or similar 'crappy + skinnier than almost all 2nd Gen' tires that the 2014 has .

The only times my MPG has been that bad = 'a tankful of 80 MPH' (for me, the 400 + miles of the 80 MPH limit part of I-10 between (but not quite extending to) San Antonio and El Paso) as your tank was as well .

Both our FITs don't like interstate speeds or wind . The combo can mean disaster for m.p.g. . Makes me want to stick my head out the side window and scream :bonk: . Better not , that could give more drag and lower F.E.. Do miss the sedan for interstate :frown: . http://badges.fuelly.com/images/sig-us/127069.png (http://www.fuelly.com/car/honda/fit/2011/cinder/127069) http://badges.fuelly.com/images/sig-us/281125.png (http://www.fuelly.com/car/honda/fit/2013/cinder/281125)

My 07 was definitely quicker than the 15 I test drove. While the suspension felt a tad tighter on the 15, my 07 seems more nimble. Overall, I'd say my 07 is more sports car like, and the 15 was closer to a Corolla experience.

The ST is fast. Its low slung. I think it might have to prove its point at every light. I had rented a Fiesta 5dr a couple years ago for a week. Its probably the best performer...and just asking and they were 4k under sticker. 20k. Car had nav and rado wheels and sunroof bringing it to around 24k sticker. I think id only want the recaros. Sunroof is too far back and rados chip.

For me, im unsure. And i bleed blue oval.

Interesting...

I've had my eye on the Focus ST for a while now...love all the features and bhp...never owned an American car and would by lying if I said I wouldn't be worried about build quality, reliability, etc....only positive note is that Ford didn't take bailout money and their recent string of cars have all looked good...still, there's just something about the way those doors feel/sound when they close compared to imports that I've just never felt good about...

The design origin is more important than where it's built, to me.

Japanese design vs American design - the answer is pretty clear.
