View Full Version : 1NZ-FXE forged rods??

Was just looking at wikipedia at different Toyota engines and noticed that the 1NZ-FXE has forged steel rods and also noticed it also runs a high compression ratio. Like the Prius. I know this engines output is much lower then our stock set-up but it got me wondering if anyone looked into mating the rods with our stock engines. Can it even be done as a straight swap, and how much more power could this allow you to push theoretically. I'm sure the stock rods are only reliable to 200whp.

Like I said just stumbled on the info and I though I'd ask.

Rods are the same between the fe and fxe.

I was just reading this which made me assume the fxe had something special in forged rods while the fe did not.

It also states that the fxe has an aluminum intake manifold which makes me wonder could we use the mate the intake flange from the fxe with the intake manifold from the 1zz engine. That's assuming the intake manifold on the fxe and the fe are the same. And the 1zz intake manifold is aluminum.

Just thinking out loud here

Fxe has a funky intake manifold tuned for a narrow rpm band.

Is anyone aware as to whether you can just pop a Prius 1.5 in the car while running your stock engine peripherals so that you have a high compression engine?

I’ve found a Prius 1nzfxe engine for $100 but it has about 200,000 miles on it. Not sure I want to take the time. The #QCYaris will almost certainly be getting the extra 1nzfe engine I have from TMontague.

the prius C engine is the one to use to make any substantial 'gains'. the original prius 1.5l engine is basically identical internal except for pistons. you can swap pistons to the yaris 1.5l, or swap yaris cams to the original prius engine.

the prius c engine has newer designs on some of the problematic 1nz issues (valve stem seals come to mind) but it requires 'some work' to install.

i have a write up on an install in a 1st gen scion XB, i will post some.
