3rd 4th & 5th gear rattle

i have a 2001 Yaris 1.3 CDX 5 door all is fine except it rattles in 3rd 4th & 5th gears it's done 90k it stops when you cruise in 5th but is there under acceleration, I have done nothing yet not even checked gearbox oil, any ideas ?😕

Gear oil for manual transmissions supposedly has to be changed anywhere from 30 to 60,000 miles.

But i think it's not that.

Yeah first thing you do is get the gearbox warm (like before its winter) and drain that oil into a clean pan so you can examine it.

If you find a lot of metal in it (the oil has a metallic sheen) you've got a lunched tranny.

Or if no oil comes out, ditto...

If the oil looks OK put new oil in and see if you got the rattles.

Also, get the car up on ramps and go over the underside of the car looking for loose nuts and bolts. You just might find something...
