I have the AEM so far so good, it has been driven during crazy rain and with a couple of inches of water on pavement. Would not change a thing

AEM intake in mine.

Have used it since August 2006 and it has been performing great.
I live in Vancouver where it rains a lot, and I haven't experienced any hydro-lock or problems with water entering the intake.

Performance wise, it provides a nice small kick at the higher RPM around (4000 and above). It works well with the VVTI which also kicks in at higher RPMs.

Installation and Fitment
No real problems as all the parts fit very neatly, and the filter element rests slightly above the foglight assembly.

I feel the same as bigsky2,but I say you can feel the effect from 2500rpm and up.

I opened up my airbox and installed a K&N stock replacement filter. Good gain in HP and sound for $45.

Why?

1)the short ram has more proven HP gains 2)they sound hella cool 3) I feel much safer with a filter up higher 4) cosmetics of a pretty blue filter in the engine bay

I wanted a Fujita one, but they only make it for manual trans right? I like the mean sound it produces. I didnt notice any sound diff with my AEM.

Stock airbox with the silencer tube removed, and the drop-in TRD filter from Japan. Sounds a lot better, and seems to just pull a whole lot more. Will hopefully be doing a dyno comparison later in the summer.

-- BlenI thought it was one of the Chief Designers at Injen that started Fujita?

Either way, I got the Fujita as well. Has some aggrivations during installation, but with all said and done, I really love it. My girlfriend calls my car the growling bunny. :brokenheart:

Change the filter to any 3" ID filter, and it will be.

Galavoxx
05-07-2007, 03:08 PM
What's your basis for saying I'll be ok with 3" ID? The ID on this filter may already be 3" but doesn't the SMOG tech need to see a sticker with CARB serial #? Either way, i have 5 years until my first smog check so I'm not that worried.

Chris07LB
05-07-2007, 03:40 PM
Because I believe its their FILTERs that cannot pass the C.A.R.B. :iono:

Galavoxx
05-07-2007, 03:44 PM
So if I throw on a CARB legal filter I should be fine. Maybe I'll wait to see what the "chinotake" looks like and just sell my setup for that. Although I would really rather have that TRD knockoff quickshifter at this point. Thanks for the info Chris.

Home made job... the mockup for the famed (and tardy) "Chinotake."

4882

Almost 2,000 miles now without a problem other than a little rattling in reverse caused by the lack of a mount on the mockup. It is a tight fit, but I'll be sure to get it secure before it makes its way onto the market. It is easily the most joyful thing I've done to my car. Now that it is warm outside, I roll my window down and tear through the gears and hearing that little hiss entering each and every gear (yes, even fifth) is awesome. Huge kick in power, smooth power band... couldn't be happier. Can't wait to finish her off.

Hey guys just finished installing the Fujita, it works AWSOME!
kind of a PITA to put in, took 1hour 30min very sweet sound, nice and loud under load, but still soft as stock when your cruisin under 3000rpm
the filter location is just behind / underneath the headlight and above the foglight, its perfect for keeping dry, but also gets the coldest air.

My mirror has the outside temp, and my dashhawk views IAC at the same as outside, compared to +8-10c at stock -very impressive
only problem i found was the VSS (vacuum switching soleniod) is not very secure with the zap strap provided so it RATTLES at idle, an easy fix though to strap in a better place or put some rubber around it.
works with both auto/man trannys, ill have some pics in my garage soon, maybe a video once i get around to it.

TRD, includes a bypass valve to prevent water entering your engine. Fit perfectly on my 1.5L engine, no extra mods required. Bypass valve cost over $50.00 if purchased seperately. www.toyotapartsdelivered has the best price within the US. I purchased mine to include shipping for $283.00.

TRD for me, it has the bypass valve which I thinks hurts performance. Would like to take it out. Otherwise I like it and goes with all my TRD parts.

Remove it, and just put a coupler in its place to connect the piping back together.
