I have mixed feelings about it but overall I'm pretty disappointed. The styling's a bit too over the top. Lot's of awkwardness going on here. Toyota always wants the Prius to look futuristic which is fine, but there is a more tasteful way to do it.

I look forward to the official launch for clearer shots.

I saw the original Prius in late 2000 when I bought my 2001 ECHO. It was beautiful! Tasteful! Bauhaus even! I wished I could afford it but no, it was $30,000 sticker and there was a waiting list months long so no discount. Only even more $$$$ for it than sticker.

The country is going to hell and so is automotive styling, IMO.

Looks more like a sedan . Close to the Celica / Scion Tc or a Saturn . Have to wait and see how it looks in the metal .

The Prius has always looked homely to me. If this is what the final production will look like to me it seems as if they are trying to take that futuristic styling to that Honda did with the insight. I guess I would have to see it in person before I made an overall decision on whether or not I find it homely as well.

Toyota stepped way outside the box on those tails for sure. If you trimmed off the bottom half, they could have been some great tail lights. One thing to think about is that a minor fender bender out back will cost a bundle now. It won't just be a simple bumper cover replacement, but will likely include replacing these expensive oversized tail lights.

I really don't like the look Toyota is going for on their new designs. This one is really over the top. To me the 2012-2014 Yaris SE was the last best Toyota design, but I might be prejudiced, I own one!

Don't think the Prius has ever been a good looking car, but leave it to Toyota to make it even uglier. Especially dislike the floating roof (which Mazda and Nissan are doing as well).

I think that Toyota has had mixed-results with their new designs, and the trim levels and exterior accessories (including wheel size) really affects the look.

I like their latest Camry front/rear look, most notably in the upper trim levels (even if I don't want a car that large, etc.), as I do the Yaris SE (not so much the L/LE). I also still like the 2012-2014 Yaris SE design, though I feel that 2015 improved upon it and refined it somewhat.

I dislike the weak-stanced new Corolla, and it's weird/bad body lines, etc. - with the S version actually looking even worse than a properly-equipped LE.

I also dislike the front designs of the new Scion iA and iM. Toyota's new fuel-cell vehicle is also one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen.

The 2016 Prius isn't any worse looking than the current one, but I still don't like it, overall.

Most of the latest Honda/Acuras aren't very aesthetically-pleasing to me either.

The ugliest Prius, IMO, was the 1st Gen XW10 (1997-2003)

Agreed, the 1st gen was hideous.

The outgoing 3rd gen is the best of the 4. Clean and sleek looking. There's some nice elements in the '16 but overall it is just too busy.

at least they are trying to do something different design wise. It really doesn't matter what it looks like, people will buy it.

I just hope the rumored awd is really true. I'd be very interested in that in a few years as a winter car.

Oh so true......especially in certain areas ...people trying to be

...In my book, might be worth having a non manual if the MPG was high enough.

True. Damned if you're different, damned if you aren't. All we hear from people are complaints about how most cars look the same, although I'm not one who thinks so. Then when something comes along that breaks the mold, it's ugly.

There's a reason the Camry's and Accord's of the world take the vanilla approach. Vanilla is the best selling flavor regardless of it's "plain" nature.

Whwn the 2nd gen Yaris came out in both the sedan and LB I came across very few that complained about the styling. Most complained about the "cheap" finishes and unspirited response of it stock performance wise. Hell most folks I know thought that it was a home run and it was different and quirky. There is a difference between that and what Toyota for auto styling now and lwading up to that point. They have made very well received deisgns with the Highlander, Taco, and Tundra as well as to some degree the Rav4. So it would seem they can more readily get the design queues down better than autos now.

They went to the Camry dent registry, ran an algorithm to determine the most common spot for these, and that's where they placed expensive, oversized tail lights. That you probably have to work your way to from the front bumper to replace.

Interesting design - and highly polarizing (the new norm for Toyota, it would seem). I personally wouldn't go for it. It seems to be trying waaaaay too hard to be different/futuristic in the front/rear.

As I mentioned in other threads, Toyota is really hit or miss with me and their latest styling (same with Honda). The only current Toyota/Scion auto designs I like are the Yaris & Camry - and even those look a bit strange/weak in their lower trim levels, with skinny/tall tires, downgraded equipment, etc.

I think the new Prius is an improvement aesthetically speaking, but it's not gorgeous by any means. But the Prius has always been homely. Anybody seen the new Lexus RX? OMG.....that thing is horrid.

The front and rear design looks too busy to me.
Since Toyota is still on their "gaping mouth" grill design, I may have preferred that on the new Prius. Maybe something like this for the front face...
