I just got my Yaris today  and I love it (black 5 spd lb with no power anything), but I've gotta ditch the factory speakers and get a proper system in there.
I like the factory head unit and would rather not have to use a mounting kit for my single din eclipse with ugly gaps above and below, so I'd like to keep the oem head if possible. Does this head unit do any sound processing? Like lowering the bass at high volumes to protect the stock speakers, or mess with the output in any other way?
Can I get away with a speaker to line level converter or will I have to pony up for a jl cleansweep or similar expensive gadget? It's just going to be a simple 4 channel amp + mono amp + 1 sub deal. I guess I just need to know if the quality from the line level converters is tolerable.

Nevermind.. i saw bugnut's install a few threads down and it seems he is happy with the stock head and a line output converter. I'm going to pick one up and give it a shot.
I haven't owned my own car for more than 2 years and haven't played with any audio stuff since high school, so I'm giggling like a schoolgirl at the prospect of playing around again :)
