06 yaris stock airbox question

Does the yaris stock airbox have a weird mesh fibre built in filter to the airbag? Or has someone jammed an old filter deep into my airbox. Sorry it's a silly question but I'm having a hard time finding an answer. It's inside the upper portion of the airbox closer to the intake than where the filter sits.

It's normal. I'm not sure what I does, but it's there. It is normal

It is a charcoal filter and is part of the emission control system.

There would be no harm. However, there is no gain. Search for charcoal filter and read the numerous threads questioning this particular filter.

I pulled mine out. I think mine had some plugging cause it felt ALOT better and pepped up.

Its purpose is to stop vapours from exiting the engine while shut off.
