We very recently purchased a 2012 Yaris LE HB (23K miles) and I noticed it has very poor radio reception with the stock radio. I checked and everything is plugged in tight so I figured I wanted a touch screen anyway and replaced it and all the speakers today. I noticed it still have poor radio reception. No worse but no better than factory.
I read where some antennas are powered/amplified, does anyone know if the 2012 is? Seeing both head units had poor reception would it make sense to you all that the antenna/amp is bad? is there a simple way to test this?
Thanks

Thanks - just ordered a new antenna off Ebay - for a few bucks it is an easy test.
Thanks again

The new antenna is in and installed - it was worse than the factory one... Ugh.
Does anyone know if the 2012 is a boosted (powered) antenna?

The service manual says it is powered, but the wiring diagrams don't show the power connection to the antenna amplifier, as the 06-11 wiring diagrams do.
The amplifier is shown as being part of the antenna base (as with the 06-11).
I recently purchased a headunit from a 2013 to install in my 09. The radio reception was horrible on it as compared with the stock 09 headunit and I finally spent some time troubleshooting it and found that the 2013 HU did not output power on the black wire of the blue connector, so I jumped ignition switched power to that wire and now my radio reception is back to as good as it was with the original HU.

Thank you - that is exactly what I was thinking about doing (adding 12v). I think tomorrow morning I will roll it into the shop and do some testing/wiring.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
