I just bought a 2010 yaris hatchback and it has the chip in the key. I only got one key when i bought the car and i would like a few spares. Figured id get some keys cut just like i did for my truck and bam I got a Quote at $90 a key for a basic key no keyless entry! Is there anyway to bypass the immobilizer/chip key mechanism ? Thank you.

No. The immobilizer is part of the ECM, so short of replacing the ECM with one from a non-immobilizer car and doing some rewiring, there is not an easy method to do so.

Thank you! I called around and found a locksmith for $55 a basic key. Can the door unlock/lock be programmed into a fob? or is that ecm related too? Thanks again!

Go to ACE Hardware and get one cut and programmed. I got one for my car it was $ 44.00 on sale.
I've got a thread here on it somewhere.

You are lucky you dont have a smartkey, costs $1000 for a replacement from the dealer.
