View Full Version : Foot-light assembly on Yaris 2015 (Europe)
I discovered some "empty" connectors in my Yaris and found out that they serve for higher package in equipment as "No.1 interior light assembly", foot light. I don't know for the other models, but most of them should have this ability.
Conditions to turn them on: unlock, door open, key removal...
They work exactly the same as the Map light with exception of no switch to manually turn them on or off.
Ordered two from Toyota dealer, perfect fit.
Not the cheapest LED on the market but they really changed the appearance.

Haven't found it yet...and the weather isn't very good for standing outside right now...sorry.
But maybe every 2012-2015 Yaris has it? Don't know.
On the passenger side, when the glove box is removed, cable should be in the right corner together with other cabling joined with the white tape that you will have to remove.
On the drivers side, when a two bolts under knee area are unscrewed and cover removed, cable and connector are joined with the white tape together with cable that goes on TPMS reset switch.
According to the Toyota's new features bulletin, models from 2014-07 have no Glove box light ability, and I can confirm that for myself. There is no connection on mine.
Models from 2011-06 until 2014-07 should have both interior foot light and glove box installations.

This doesn't apply in 2012 north american Yaris models right ?
Check if there is a place for LED on passenger side lower trim. You will see if there is a cone. Or you can remove glove box. Fully open it, and pull it horizontally towards yourself. Once removed you should see is there a place on plastic cover and most important is there any spare connector. You can check then with multimeter is there any power on it.

Should the glovebox light always be on? Think mine in my 2014 model is on when closed

Yes it should be always on, when panel lights are on.

After seeing this thread, tried it out on my 2014 Icon+ VVT-i and all went as planned.
Bought 2 x 'Lamp Assy, Interior Illuminati' 81080-0D010 from local Arnold Clark (total £18)
Going to get some aluminium tape as suggested to brighten them. Cheers!

I still can't find the "spare" connectors on neither sides... I've an Australian 2013 Gen3 Yaris albeit the YR spec (lowest). On the driver side I've taken out the small panel (two screws) beneath the knee airbag and looked under, no spare connector. On the passenger side, I've looked around and behind all the existing wires and connectors and didn't find any. Can someone that has that connector take a picture of the actual connector and location of it?
I really don't want to run a wire from the fuse box nor running a wire all the way from the existing dome light down the footwell... :) thanks a lot ppl!

I think you're out of luck mate. I have an 2012 Australian ZR and I couldn't find the connectors. It's also worth noting that we don't even have the panel on the passenger side under the glove box to mount the lamp!
If you really wanted to do it, you'd probably find the necessary wiring on one of the connectors that sit behind the kick panels. You'd need to get testing with a multimeter to see if you can find the ground wire that's being switched and a power source. Good luck :)

thanks @stidnam. have looked through the GSIC wiring diagrams for Yaris and indeed there weren't mention of the footwell light.. have just taken out the front interior lighting assembly but the 3 wires (white/black, black, blue) are all live and it'll be difficult to run extra wires under the roof lining and side of a-pillar airbag. probably i'll have to locate one of the door latch switches and tap wires through there.

Okay, finally done the wiring. End product looks like this.
https://imgur.com/csAv29A.jpg
1. Remove the front map reading light assembly. Solder a connector to these two locations. Of course use your multimeter or a simple lightbulb to test polarity.
https://imgur.com/r4Z1X5J.jpg
2. Run wire from the assembly recess through to windshield, then under the roof lining and across to each A-pillar. Going around the airbag (do not obstruct) and through to under rubber seal. Run along and above the seal through to B-pillar.
3. Rear door rubber seal, you'd need to slit two holes to fit the flexible LED strip light through.

Something like this should suffice (the one I bought earlier no longer exist).
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Waterproof-12V-Cool-White-10M-5050-SMD-600-LEDs-Strips-Led-Strip-Lights-Car-Boat/253616082014?hash=item3b0cb24c5e:g:pJYAAOSweNZa8V~ u
Now my rear lights fade out just like the map light. (animated GIF)
https://imgur.com/jHOHeAA/
Since the hard part of wiring is done, I can now easily do the footwell light.
