I've had it up to 100mph once just to see what it felt like, didn't want to push it any further. Not many wide open spaces around here to do that sort of thing anyhow. Usually I'm creeping along at 30mph in city traffic.

I've gotten close to that in the desert on my way to Vegas.

At top speed are you saying to yourself, "She's breaking up! She's breaking up!", or is it fairly smooth, suspension and engine-wise?

I assume the ECU stops you from going any faster, right? In older cars, wouldn't it sometimes shut down a couple cylinders and make the engine feel wonky?

Wow; I would have bet a paycheck that you were just kidding. The article you linked plus a little Googling and now I really do think it's interesting.
So, theoretically, if you were on a long, straight downhill grade, you would be able to achieve a higher top speed, right?

but anything going on a long hill downgrade will in essence get a higher speed even if it doesnt read due to momentum. in a vaccum on an infinate down hill grade smooth no imperfections, ever car would eventually reach their own termininal velocity.

Wow, the Yaris maybe faster than my 2.4L Scion XB. My XB was accelerating extremely slowly at 104. I think I was at redline. The XB is more fun to drive but also is much thirstier.

But.. the most important question: what happens when you hit 88 mph?! (and with that I've officially dated myself..)

Resurecting this thread a bit.
I hit 172km/h (106mph) heading over the skyway the other night trying to see when the governor would kick in. It was still climbing but I didn't trust my tires to not blow out so I'll wait until I have my new uhp tires on next summer to push it a bit more.
Fwiw this was in a 4 lane highway that was pretty empty and cops only ever sit at the bottom over the other side of the bridge. This is one of the few places that it's "safe" to go that fast.
Can anyone confirm when the governor kicks in for the Canadian yaris'?

California Bay Area here, I've caught myself cruise controlling at 105 mph a few times on I-80 near Fairfield in the middle lane being passed by minivans! It's crazy out there when it's not rush hour
