If you're talking traditional car wash style (in a bucket), then Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax (yellow stuff) is good. 8 bucks on amazon for 48 oz.

And honestly, I was really surprised by Turtle Wax. This was before I got into detailing and trying many car wash soaps. I have to check which Turtle Wax it is, but it was VERY cheap, and it did pretty darn good.

Poorboy's World has some really good soaps.

Now, If you're talking about the "newer" waterless wash type of Wash and Wax, then the Meguiar's stuff and Poorboy's World are my preferred products. I just bought a gallon of Poorboy's Spray n Gloss, it's that good.

I am fan of the SONAX brand, the car wash shampoo and the liquid wax, search what is locally found in your supermarket or auto store.

Meguiars Ultimate Wax. This product really give a nice shine.

I've used this. I won't say it outshines others.

I did a 5 way wax test and only one wax (Chemical Guys Pete's 53) had a slightly different look. It dulled out the flake on the black hood. All others, I couldn't see a difference.

Here's a short video of how water reacts to the various waxed portions:
