hello,
I know the Yaris calls for 5w30 motor oil, but I have some 5w40 and 0w40 laying around, I wonder if it is ok to use it in the U.S. Yaris? Anyone tried it?

I use 0w30 year round to help in the winter start ups. I have an oil temp and pressure gauge and have noticed no decreases in oil presure that would be concerning.
IMO 5w40 and 0w40 is fine to use. I'm thinking about running 5w40 in the summer and ow30 in the winter. Problem is our summers are relatively short and I don't want to change oil every couple months. Plus, I have no issues with pressure or temp running ow30 in the middle of summer

It shouldn't hurt but 5W40 and 0W40 are but more designed to be used in diesel engines and can also be used in gasoline engines. 5W40 is very close to the factory recommended 5W30, with only the warm viscosity being somewhat higher.

Go ahead and use it if you want to void any warranty you may have left.

It will show up on the receipt you provide as proof the oil change was actually done.
