I'm thinking, in general

1. Voltage stabilizers/grounding cables
2. fully synthetic oil
3. Iridium/silver/copper spark plugs
4. Full flowing exhaust
5. CAI

1. I would wait, or make your own for cheep
2. very good investment, many see a nice mpg increase
3. car come stock with NKG iridiums, it would be a waist
4. another good investment, I recommend going to the local shop and getting a cat-back with 2.25 with your choice of muffler and tips
5. our car seems to respond to a short ram the best, and Chino's intake, seems to be the best bang for the buck, but he is fine tuning the production model to be for sale soon...

hope that helps ya out

1. Turbo kit

What black Yaris said, just a little different order. Short ram intake before exaust, and lightened crank pulley before both.

best upgrade would be better tires, good high quality rubber.

The best upgrade is not to upgrade anything at all. Just sit back and enjoy that 40 MPG. Of course, if you're like me you're too dumb to do this so in that case I'd say the first thing to do is drop it.

Thanks all for the input, so a revised list would be...

1. fully synthetic oil (going for x-rev 5W30 next oil change)
2. lightened crank pulley
3. SRI
4. Full flowing exhaust
5. Lightweight alloys n Quality rubbers (mine are RM rims with Dunlop SP10, aiming for the Revspec RS-02, I hate tire/road noise  )
6. Turbo kit (too costly for me  )
7. NOS (only legal for track days, which my ride is not cut out for, whatever you put in it!)
8. Iridium/silver/copper spark plugs
9. Voltage stabilizers/grounding cables

any other things to add?

That sounds like a good plan, at least the first 5 as a priority.
Don't forget lower/stiffer suspension, helps a lot with handling and high speed stability, and looks better too

Oh yeah, performance plus looks! How could I have left that out?! Thanks man!

that there would get you a sweet yaris :headbang:

A great first mod is the crank pulley, it will compliment anything you do later. I'd hit up ZPI for that one, $80 first mod that actually makes a difference

If you even think your going to do a turbo kit down the line... just hack your stock airbox for a modest power gain and save up.... the $100-300 you spend on an intake + the exaust $ could go towards the turbo and a more fitting exaust for the turbo.

But, I'd say the best things to do early on would be new rubber and the crank pulley... then springs/intake/exaust.

Synthetic oil is a given :headbang:

I'm not an expert at all the performance mods, but I would say suspension, wheels, and tires first.

Just adding the NF210's (Which are just a bit lower, and not a performance kit) really made the car feel sportier.

how about souped up ignition cables and ignition stabilizers?

You might wanna swap 5 & 6 with 2, 3 & 4.

Better to update the handling and stability before powering up the car.

At least... on a motorcycle, it's always better to make sure the parts connecting you to the road will be able to handle the improved engine performance. Makes sense to apply that philosophy to a car as well, right? Especially if you plan on driving it like you mean it.

Best performance upgrade is the driver. That would be you in this case.
Drop about the same as you would pay for the exhaust and the CAI into a Skip Barber course, and I can guarantee you will pick up performance. Not so much in a straight line, but on the twisties which is where it matters. Any damn fool can go fast in a striaght line - all it takes is money and a lead foot. Going fast in the corners is where you can scare the sh!t out of your wife and pass all those annoying farts in powerful cars who can't drive them properly.

yeah... reminds me of my holidays spent in NZ. Drove thru numerous mountain passes, with lots of twists and turns... great fun!!!

I'm glad you agree... When I was test driving my Yaris, I had also tried a Scion xB with a limited edition sports package... so I got to compare handling. I think that you will find that the stability and handling improvements you get from upgrading suspension and wheels will keep you excited until you scratch up the dough to start modding the engine and airflow.

The stability will let you drive the car a bit more aggressively which will end up translating into mhp (mental horse power.)
