Reason for selling: I'm back in Canada and don't want the hassle of importing it. Plus I bought a new car :). I'm in Windsor, Ontario so anyone near Detroit, MI would be ideal.

If I was keeping the car longer I would:
-replace the catback exhaust (about $300)

The car has been well cared for and fully synthetic oil changes every 5k since 23K miles. Hoping it goes to a good home.

I wanted to but apparently as of July 1st, Ontario put in place a much more stringent set of rules for importing US vehicles. The rules state that any modifications other than "routine maintenance" make a car inadmissible. I've tried to get more specifics but have not had much luck. The cost of replacing the major modified components (suspension, intake/exhaust manifolds, exhaust) etc would not be worth it as it would probably equate to about 1/4 of the car's worth. Even then I have no guarantee it will pass. Furthermore, I would not really enjoy driving a stock yaris. If I want to put back all of the parts after the inspection, I will again eat up more labor costs.
From a cost/benefit standpoint, I didn't think it was worth the gamble.

typically you just need to get DRL's and pass a safety and etest

I moved to Windsor, Ontario. In addition to the safety and e-test you have to get a RIV clearance (Registrar of Imported Vehicles). The RIV process starts with a $195 fee to bring the car into the country and this covers the inspection that must be done at a Canadian Tire. Once you pay that fee they will give you the checklist which you must take to Canadian Tire within 30 days of issue. If you fail the inspection, each additional inspection fee is around $55-60 plus additional costs for further modification etc.

On a car with a value of at least $10k, the relative investment of $1k would be somewhat more reasonable.

Would that I could, that's a really nice setup. Very tasteful mods that keep the OEM reliability. The Blues with S-Techs are a little imbalanced for my taste (I have Reds set to 3.5 with MI springs), but it does give a very firm corner response with very little pitch on launch. The most amazing thing about the 09 is that it has ABS and a speedo sensor on the gearbox, but no active stability control (ASC) to screw with you while you're trying to AutoX.

While I would love to give it a new home, I'm not in a position to finance it. That said, someone needs to pick this up. This is a STEAL for the mods done, not to mention the bluebook value.

Thanks! The car does ride on the firmer side but the on- and off-ramps are a blast ;) I have never tracked or autoX'd the car but i think it would do quite well.

Thanks guys! I thought the car would sell in a couple of days. I know the car preferences in Detroit are usually American Muscle but I thought there would be enough enthusiasts who would be interested in these cars.

I now bought a Golf R which is ridiculously quick but also bigger and heavier. I can't even come close to using its potential in the city. I now really appreciate the saying "it's more entertaining to drive a slow car fast than a fast car within city limits".

I have put it up on Ebay, craigslist and Facebook as well. So far I've gotten a few really low ball offers but I'm confident I'll find a buyer for a reasonable price. I'd rather give the car to a family member or friend in desperate need of a car than sell it for next to nothing.

I knew there was a smaller market for import hatchbacks in Detroit but I didn't think it would be this hard to find a buyer! Given that I will have the car a little longer, I'm going to go ahead and replace the front rotors too.

The lowest priced (not salvaged) 2009 in my area on CarGurus.com is coming in at $5k USD. Goes up from there.

Goes without saying that the aftermarket-ness will generally hurt market value. Personally, I think you have a hell of a car at a hell of a price.

Interestingly, the 2007's in my area are going for as much or more than the 2009's...

You're right. In hindsight, I would have still modified it even though i'm losing money on it because for the last 4 years, it has been so much fun!
