Looks like the numbers are WAY down in the USA...

I wonder how the car is doing in the rest of the world...

Any one have a source for Yaris Global Sales data?

I hope they never discontinue this car...

Not sure about other markets, but the "Toyota Yaris" that we all know will be extinct after 2016. Our future 2017+ "Yaris" hatch/sedan will be a rebadged Mazda2, built in Mexico.

I test drove the iA before I bought my Yaris... Just too many gadgets & gismos for my taste.

Plus my Yaris feels like I'm in an extended truck cab (spacious, utilitarian).

So will the iA become Yaris sedan, and iM become Yaris Hatch / Auris hatch?

Will the 1NZ-FE motor be a thing of the past in the USA after 2016??

I haven't seen numbers, but after a recent vacation to five countries in central Europe, I would have to say that sales are going well over there, as I saw an incredible number of 3rd gens on the road in every one of the places I traveled.

The iA (Yaris Sedan) is a rebadged Mazda2 sedan with a different front bumper/snout. The 2017 Yaris hatchback will be the Mazda2 hatchback version of the same car - probably with a matching ugly snout (hopefully, Toyota will redesign the front for both and move away from the iA front styling). Since both cars are 99.9% Mazda2, they will be using the Mazda direct-inject SKYACTIV engines, drive-trains, etc. I seriously doubt that you will see the 1NZ-FE engine in North America again after 2016.

the picture above looks pretty decent. if they can keep it under $15k i'll probably get one when my echo is in need of retirement. i've had three different cars in the last 10 years with the 1NZ-FE engine and i've been nothing but impressed with the durability and relative fuel economy! i change the oil every 8k miles or so with pennzoil platinum 5w-30 and ngk platinum plugs every 100k miles. other than that- nothing major(air filters of course). i hope the engine stays in something, but the newer engines(ie. skyactiv) are pretty impressive! the 1NZ-FE just won't die, however!!!

my vote for one of the best(not sexiest) engines toyotas made in the past couple decades!

The Yaris/Vitz sells much better outside the USA/NA market, and tends to have more options and/or interesting trim levels.

Most Americans prefer larger vehicles, performance vehicles and/or "status-symbol" vehicles (and generally not hatchbacks). When they do opt for subcompacts, they tend to do so for purely financial reasons - and then opt for the lowest-priced perceived-decent-quality vehicle (which is why the Nissan Versa sells so darn well compared to others in its class). The Yaris would probably sell better if it better matched the Versa pricing in the L/LE trim level and had a true "hot hatch" trim version to bring better attention to the model brand, instead of the "lukewarm-hatch" that is the SE (which has the basic look, but not the muscle and such). Don't get me wrong, the SE is a really fun little car (especially with manual, sway-bar, etc.), but people who buy sporty version cars like these usually want more horsepower and finer-tuned performance characteristics. That is probably why almost all the Yaris you do actually see on the road are L/LE trims instead of SE. Personally, I would have gladly paid $20-24K MSRP for a real Yaris "hot hatch". :thumbsup:

I found on some sites that the 17 Yaris Hatch will be the same as 16

The scion ia will become the Yaris iA sedan
