Not knowing a ton about how to make cars perform better, can you help me understand what the benefit of manually shifting an auto is? From my driving experience, I find that if you hammer down on the accelerator, the car will red line every gear on it's own, no? What benefit comes from shifting it yourself at the red line?

1nz auto transmission slips or skip gears...example if i want to go on 2nd gear, it will be on 4th gear = no power...
when i went to get my car ecu tuned, i wanted to change the transmission(its cheap here) but the tuner told me to upshift through gears like this etc. he taught me its torque converter same as with manu shifters..they program the ecu by shifting through L1-2-3-D(over drive)..😡

check out one video posted, i remember theres yaris sedan with 2zz engine going through mountain street with auto tranny on 2nd gear..someone posted this video not too long ago 😁

Yeah, I think that was Jason Armstrong, when his swapped sedan was on One Take. I understand it for that type of application, but was having a hard time understanding the benefit when doing straight line acceleration.

yeah jason armstrong video 😁 i be doing samething when i hit curvy roads here..

benefit of straight in line...hmmm...i race my friends yaris with manual on straight line...of course his has 5 speed...mine has like long gears with D as over drive after 120km....but mine has more mods so its much faster...i had this issue where rpm took forever to go up...light weight pulley helped a little bit...straight line benefit? none 😧😧😧 but in traffic comfortable af 😆😆😆

my other 2 cars have shifters on steering wheel with 6 speed which makes more sense..i understand your point though...😥😥😥

To be fair, I don't think it took rabbito 15 sec to get to 100 km. It looks like he let off for that big hip in the road and then got back on it. Based on the acceleration after hitting that hip, seems to me that on good road he would do better than the stock 10 sec.

Having said that, I do think you're being a little sensitive about it, rabbito. I don't think alias06 is criticizing you, or putting your car down, I think he was just making conversation.

This thread makes me want to time my car's 0-60 lol. Aside from a K&N drop in and springs, I'm stock.

I look forward to seeing that vid. I think if these cars do 0-100 km in about 10 sec stock, you'll beat that.

Showing us how to shift on an automatic transmission like it is unknown to the whole world is just a silly idea, fast and furious has been doing it in the early 2000s. His video shows him controlling the gears by shifting at higher rpms which is what shifting on the auto trans does gear by gear. I admit that I didn't account for him taking off his feet on the "hill" but nevertheless his other post about being jealous of a piston swapped yaris doing 8-9 second 0-60s and with his modded yaris not being able to replicate it leaves room for criticism.

i don't know why we're getting a little worked up on yaris acceleration?? it's an NZ engine, and if nothing else, it's a toyota DD, so low to mid end is the powerband, so nice torque but a little poor on top end power. (honestly i dont feel any at around 5k or so rpm, but thats just me).

so feel free to post if you can get it to go faster whether it's na or fi, because it's just going to be beneficial (and exciting) for everyone in yw.

my turbo diesel suv gained 20hp just by replacing stock exhaust to 3 inch full exhaust system..now it spools much faster and love it on full throttle......😆😆😆😆😆

in the other hand my little 1.5 1nz yaris sedan gained 6-7hp...LOL...😂😂😂 its very challenging for me to make slow car fast...right now i am at high 9 to 10 sec. zone after the mods...it was 12-13 sec. stock (0-60km)...its so challenging and frustrating..maybe its the weather here...40c/105f with high humidty isnt joke.. 😂😂😂

im waiting for my cams to arrive from the factory end of next month..its 18hp on dyno...im praying that these cams can get me at least 8 second from 0-60...💨💨💨💨
