Play in Steering Rack Mounts...

Hi all, have recently picked up a second generation 1.4 diesel which is great but have noticed a slight amount of play in the steering rack mounts, have verified at a local garage with it up on the ramps & it's definitely the steering rack that's floating a little.

Have tried to obtain mounts but after motor factors pointing me in the direction of a main dealer I called them only to be told the mounts aren't replaceable & a new steering rack would need to be purchased.

Does anyone have experience with these steering rack mounts on the second generation yaris's, are they serviceable in anyway, would another cotton reel like bushing from something else fit? Without taking off I don't know the dimensions..

I had to have my rack replaced at about 40k miles. It was making a high pitch, squeaking noise when turning the wheel. Was a really expensive job from Toyota, but my body shop guy said he gets re-manufactured ones for a third of the price.
