rear muffler hanger broke

The rear muffler hanger broke on my '08 hb the other day, my question is whether a new hanger could be welded onto the OEM muffler? And I'm currious if anyones installed a Walker or Bosal OEM replacement muffler as I'm curious about the noise difference. The muffler still looks great after 154k miles minus the rusted hanger due to NE winters. There is a fairly loud leak back there somewhere, could it be from the flange? Anyway, if anyone could help that'd be great.

The same thing happened to my 2008 too, I don't know how long the muffler was hanging without the hook.

Instead of welding another hook, I just tied it to the rubber hanger with wires, and to provide stress relief, I folded plastic from a milk jug around the rubber, and tin can sheet metal around the muffler bracket, see photo.

This will last for a while, I hope.
