I am a Amsoil convert from years of using it in heavy equipment.

Presumably you've been using OEM filters since 0 miles.
I'm using Mobil1 5w30 as well. Anyone know if it is wise to use a thinner oil in this engine?

Toyota has recently released a service bulletin stating that 5W-20 is ok in our engine. I personally would not go on lower then that such as 0W-20 unless I lived in a very cold climate.
BTW, I prefer higher quality filters such as Wix over OEM.

5W-20 is ok? Great, I should start buying it. Only problem is I've got enough Mobil1 5W-30 to last for almost a year for both my Yaris and my Wife's Echo. (What can I say, I buy it when it goes on sale at Canadian Tire)
Well, although I live in Canada, I'm in the small sliver of the country that doesn't get super cold in winter. (Think Seattle) 0W-20 would probably be too thin unless you live up North or switch to it just for winter.
On Echodrivers, somebody said you can use a Celica filter because it fits, but is slightly bigger.

I am not concerned about extra capacity over the stock filter. The filtration properties are my concern. I also use a magnetic oil plug.
