Hey Yaris World !! just bought a Yaris HB , with front stress bar and rear sway bar.
the current muffler is rusted and in need of a new one. looking for a good bang for my buck on an axle back, or something like that. I have never made mod's to cars before (noob) and am wondering if, there is tuning i have to do to the engine after installing a different pipe?

cheap nothing special at Car Quest its around 100$ and it sounds quite nice little louder than stock...plus life time warranty and a straight bolt on.

With just the rear muffler you have nothing to worry about, as far as having to do anything with the engine. The only thing it will really change is the sound.

This one bolts right on: Walker Quiet-Flow SS Muffler #53757

I think this is the one that Exiwolfman is referring to.

cheaper on Rockauto some where around 50$ I was looking because in my mind the factory muffler looks like it would restrict flow going in and out the front

I got a crack in the muffler on my Echo RS I had at the time, and went to L&G in Markham, on a recommendation. So I asked Alan at L&G if he had anything that would boost performance a bit. He offered me an N1 style muffler, and warned me it would be loud. It was loud, it looked badass, and I was surprised at how it really improved power at lower revs. It was very noticeable when accelerating uphill. Only cost around $25 over the regular muffler he would have fitted otherwise.

Now the Echo has been replaced with a 2006 Yaris RS, and I'm looking at muffler options again . I want that low end boost again, but maybe just a tad less loud.

That is the one, works well and cheap plus nice sound.
Does it give any performance improvement if it's not so loud?

I've been told there's a couple of shops in Pacific Mall that sell mufflers and other tuning parts. I'm thinking of checking them out too.

Since this is a Canadian's thread, I will point out that we are not eligable for both the free shipping and the rebate.

If you get that muffler could you post a video for the sound?

Kind of interested in this too if it is a bit louder than the stock.

Updating myself. Just noticed in our local Canadian Tire flyer that these mufflers are now 15% off ($97.74 to $101.99 CAD) and the $30 rebate is being made available.

What would be the least noisy muffler (without going overboard with pricing) ? I like my car to be quiet on the streets.

I might be wrong but I believe the least noisy is the Walker 53919.

http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/walker-exhaust-systems/e-catalog-lookup/53919

It looks exactly like the original factory muffler, so i would expect a simmilar sound output?:iono:

Canadian Tire has it on sale for about $100 CDN until Thursday and it's also eligible for the $30 rebate.

Thanks, right now I'm waiting for spring (gonna save a winter of rust from a new muffler), but for $70 plus tax it could be a good time to buy and install it when I'll change back to summer tires in the spring.

When your room is on the very corner of a steep incline street near downtown, you grow to hate those who think loud mufflers are fun. Noise pollution in the city. In the suburbs and country, go for it tho.

I'm sure there will be other opportunities before next summer, for now I still have too much stuff I have to get rid off before I can bring more new parts in the shed. Who wants a nice set of 15" Toyota OEM mags ?

I once lived in an old house at the intersection of two major roads with constant traffic 24 hours. The big bikes with straight pipes were the worst offenders. And the 18 wheelers, which made the whole house shake!

There's different levels of loudness and quietness. No need to be painfully loud. I just like the car to have a little better performance than stock, and not sound like a sowing machine.

Definitely sounds better/louder than stock. Do you feel any improvement in performance over the stock muffler?

It does sound a bit louder than stock, and i think that's because i have a short ram intake and a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold/header.

I really can't compare it to the OEM one because i've been using a Tababe Medalion Touring these past 2 years, and completely forgot what the original one feels like.

As for performance...it does feel like the car revs a bit more freely in the low end as opposed to my previous set-up. Really can't say for sure without a dyno though...:frown:

Not so sure then how much of that great sound is due to the Walker muffler. :-) I would however love to know what manifold you're using. How does it effect high end and low end performance in your opinion?

I don't care too much about dyno readings, as to me those are just numbers that don't tell you a lot about how a car actually behaves and feels when you sit inside and drive it.

In that vid clip you are hearing pretty much 100% muffler. The nature of that demonstration does not introduce the conditions where intake/manifold manifest themselves in sound. It is definitely louder than stock and quieter than the Medalion Touring. The Medalion burbles and rumbles at idle, and is much throatier as the RPMs climb under load.

I'm using a Weapon R 4-2-1 Manifold.

In my opinion, it improves power at low RPM a bit, but tends to struggle on the upper-mid to high RPM range. I think it's great for a daily driver like mine. I have an auto and hadly go past 2500 in city driving now, and on the highway i tend to cruise at 3000 at 110km/h. In a manual, don't really know, but i think you'd definitly have adequate acceleration in 2nd-3rd.
