Ok, anyone who has gotten this recall notice about the Takata air bags knows how frustrating this is. Toyotas fix for this? They recommend that no one ride in the front passenger seat until the new parts are available. One of the Toyota dealership that I stopped at didn't even have an idea on how long it could take to get the part in to fix the problem. That doesn't work when you have a family of four. I'm either thinking of disconnecting the air bag, or making the passenger in the front seat wear a Kevlar vest and helmet. I would like to hear what other Yaris owners are doing about this recall, or what they have been told.

Up here, Toyota Canada hasn't even issued the recall yet. This tells me that the vast majority of Canadian Yaris owners are probably not even aware of the potential issue.

No one called me either. Owners manual gives Toyota number to call for recalls status on your particular vehicle. (tell your VIN nimber.) See other recently used threads here on Yaris recalls.

I had checked with my dealer. It was them that stated Toyota Canada had not yet issued the recall.

Disconnect my be your only real option if you are willing to roll the dice. As for getting upset with Toyota there really isn't much they can do as this is a global epidemic with Takata across too many auto manufacturers to count. Not a lot of options out there. I believe if they put out a formal response to disable the airbags then the vehicles would be non drivable per state/province laws as it would be perceived as an unserviceable vehicle.
