Spare wheel in luggage boot

Hi, I bought a spare wheel for my Yaris (the space saver one) and there is some space between the wheel and the mat covering it. I fear that the mat will break if I put some weight on it. Is there anything I can buy to fill in that space so that the mat does not break?

You could cut a piece of 1/4" plywood to fit under the mat.
