I have a two Yari, both 4 door hatch manual trans cars. 2012 is an SE, 2011 is a base model. 2011 has 282k miles, 2012 has 51k.
My 2011 gets 36-39mpg mixed consostantly, the 2012 gets 34-36mph under the same conditions.
Kind of surprised by this

The 2012 is most likely heavier, plus if its the SE it has those bigger rims and tires to turn than the little 14s on the older car.
I thought the stick shifts got about 40 or more. I have a 15 Yaris hatch automatic and average 36, had a 03 Echo automatic before the Yaris and it averaged 38, gave it to my grandson and it's still going strong, has a little over 200,000 miles on now.

I previously had a 2011 Yaris 4 door sedan that got better MPG than my current 2013 YARIS Sport 4 door hatchback. My previous car still in the family and the weight difference between them is just 35 pounds
Sedan 3300 lbs.
Hatchback 3335 lbs.
Sedan is Automatic
Hatchback is 5 speed manual.
I was told by a TOYOTA salesman that 2006-2011 get better MPG than 2012 and up models.
