And they try to feed the public that the cost of crude is based on market demand.. what a joke...

It's both supply and demand. So they want to limit supply to get the price to go up.
In Ontario we're expecting a jump of 5c per litre tomorrow, which would equate to around 20c a gallon. That sudden rise is caused by speculators in the petroleum markets.
However, this petroleum price rise is expected to cause North American production from shale and oil sands to be ramped up, which will bring the price back down again.
