So I dropped my yaris off to get the airbag recall done. They initially told me it would take 2 hours and when I got there they told me it was a 5 hour repair and the car would need to be left overnight! Wtf! They said the dash needs to be removed in its entirety to change it! Is this true?? Why would they quote a 2 hour repair previously then? I'm worried they will mess up my tach install and radio. Anybody else do theirs yet that has any input on this?

Yes the dashboard need to come off completely.

I saw them remove the dashboard on mine for a rattle fix, and the bag was attached to it. But this doesn't take 5hours.

Just had mine done late last week. Left it the night before so they could start on it early. Had a 7:15 AM appointment time and they called to let me know it was ready around 10:45 AM. Like you, I was also worried about my double-din head unit, wired microphone, USB to glove box, etc, but I got the car back not being able to tell anything was done. Gotta say I was impressed, but I'm sure it varies from dealer to dealer and technician to technician.

Dash removal does not interfere with your radio or other wiring done unless you attached stuffs to the dash.

Good point. I guess when you think about it, in most cases everything is attached to the stuff under the dash, not the dash itself (with the exception of the USB cable that runs from the head unit to lower passenger dash, in my case).

Since originally posting about having had this recall completed, I've used the dial to switch from outside air to inside air and discovered that it works a LOT better than it did before. Not sure if they broke something and replaced unbeknownst to me, or just noticed it was binding on something and fixed it. Either way, it rotates from outside to inside air a lot easier with a much more satisfying click back and forth than it did before.
