2010 Yaris - Engine Quit While Driving

With 83k miles on it, I'm surprised (and really bummed) that while in the middle of an intersection, the engine simply stopped running. There's no water in the oil, put in a new battery & nothing.
No clicks or other signs of life.
Dealership claims it's "child proofed" with a kill-the-engine mode. :iono:
My code reader doesn't detect a problem. To this the dealership says only they can unlock it & reset the engine.
This sounds ridiculous, however, the cost to "reset the engine" makes it a good thing for the dealership.
Have any Yaris owners, pros, enthusiasts, mechanics seen this happen?

So it does not turn over? Is it manual or auto? Do you have lights on the dash ? Or is it like there is no power on some circuits?

If it detected an incorrect key, and the antitheft tripped, it takes the Toyota scanner to clear it. I'm not saying that's the problem though unless there are antitheft DTCs saying it's locked.

If you know of anyone who has techstream software near you, use it to pull any codes that the dealership can see. This would also allow you to reset anything.

I've never heard of the engine locking out randomly and needing to be reset. Did the dealership explain why this would even happen?

yeah that's not a thing that happens. (engine reset) when you put the key in and turn it, does your immobilizer light come on/flash? I would lean towards the anti-theft components. do you have any aftermarket parts installed like a remote start or aftermarket alarm?
