I just bought a 2016 5 door hatchback yesterday. The stock stereo is a touch screen unit. One of the buttons said "Apps". When I pressed it, it said apps and navigation are not available. I asked the dealer about it. He said the Yaris comes with the same radio as the bigger vehicles but the apps and navigation you can't get with the Yaris. He also said that these option use your data through your cell phone.

Is this true? Is there any way I can get these option to work with this car? I am guessing if the stereo is the same, the access for those option must be a paid service.

Thanks for your help,
Ray

I think there is a app for your phone you can download to interact with the stereo in the USA

I believe you'll need the GPS module. It's a dealer installed option, or you may be able to DIY. As far as the apps, I don't think the Yaris Entune unit has any. It does not get the Entune App Suite that the other Toyotas get.

Thanks for the information guys.

My phone does interact with the yaris in some ways via bluetooth. I can make and receive calls as well as play music that is on my phone through the head unit. Thats about it.

Your right Kaotic, there are no apps installed on the head unit.

So, it appears the hardware is the same as other model vehicles, but the entune software you must not be able to get for the yaris.

If the gps module is installed, would it be in the head unit or some place else in the vehicle?

I asked the dealer if there was a way for me to get full function of the head unit with gps navigation and apps. He said no, you can't with the yaris. Does anyone know if I could buy this same head unit and gps module out of another model car and get it to work with these functions? It sounds to me the units are made the same until software install.

There is a dealer add on for GPS that exists. Its called an extension box. I did try using one from a prius c but it didn't work unfortunately.

Here is the solution, but is not cheap

You may use http://car-solutions.com/en/video-cable-for-toyota-touch-2-entune-monitors.php + http://car-solutions.com/en/smartphone-iphone-wi-fi-mirror-car-adapter-with-rca-and-hdmi-outputs.php

or much more expensive

You'll need the the extension box that will enable the GPS portion to work.

Part number PT296-47141 https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~ext~box~export~pt296-47141.html

Then you'll need the GPS antenna kit. Part # PT296-00141-AA
https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~antenna~gps~pt296-00141-aa.html

That kit should include the antenna itself, GPS plate, cable ties, wire clips, and foam adhesive pad.

Lastly, the extension brackets. Part #'s 86211-0D140

Just install everything. I think the first link had an installation guide in it. Your local dealership is just being super lazy to look up information.

Prius c is a different type of Entune head unit. Plus, I believe you'll need a VIN for a Prius c for it to work.

Close to $800 when all is said and done. And that's just in parts. Add in your time to install...Just get a good mount for your phone and use that, or a cheap Garmin.

I'd rather spend that money on an Alpine or Pioneer headunit with a built in nav.
