The insurance claiming this as totaled cause the repair cost is more than the cars worth, I say BS. They haven't offered me anything yet.

Looks totaled to me. Back in '10 when a deer ran into the driver's side fender and broke the tabs on the driver's side headlight and pushed the fender in of my liftback, the damages came up to over $5k. I don't see how with depreciation the insurance wouldn't total out the car.

Sorry to see that. Hope there weren't any injuries.
I intend to keep my Yaris until the wheels fall off, even if/when I purchase a new car, but an ending for it like this is a real possibility each day I take it out on the road.
As I said, hope there weren't any injuries and if it is totaled, enjoy the replacement car purchase process. Depending on how you look at it, it can be a really fun experience that we don't get to do all that often - unless you're justanotherdrunk and get a fresh and crispy new lease every 3 yrs lol.

Sorry to say but given the damage it's totaled for sure. I would say that given just the rear end damage alone the car is totaled.

that doesn't look too much worse than mine. my insurance quote was $1400. the body shop quoted 6 days. it actually took 36 days and final bill was $4600. I bet they wish they had totaled it! (it's a hatchback)

yea, it doesn't take much to total older compact cars. My daughter had similar damage in her corolla that was 10 years old at that time (except it wasn't her fault or rear ending) and sure enough it was totaled. shop estimate was about $5000. I even thought about buying it back and repairing myself, but decided to take the insurance money and buy yaris instead. and this is why i'm here.
BTW, one dirty secret is insurance companies get good money for those wrecks on auctions, and those cars get repaired in Mexico and have a second life all over the world.

BTW, one dirty secret is insurance companies get good money for those wrecks on auctions, and those cars get repaired in Mexico and have a second life all over the world. They do get money for the wrecks at auctions, but never as much as the check they write to the insured. They are wrecked, after all. The insurance company will also happily sell it back to the insured at salvage value, assuming state law allows it.
The quotes provided for insurance purposes assume all new, OEM replacement parts. Shops can fix them for way less using aftermarket and junkyard parts instead, then re-sell them with a salvage/restored title and still make a little profit, even with the cost of buying the wreck and the reduced value of a salvage-title car. Most of them are fixed and re-sold domestically, as far as I know. Only the real basket cases get exported or junked.

Ive worked for a few body shops. Its alarming how much insurance will quote for OEM parts and and use aftermarket and pocket the savings

It might be cheaper to try and get some body parts from a scrap yard and do it out of pocket if the car is in good nick otherwise.

Sorry to see that man. You got rear ended right in the cheeks. I repaired my sedan a few years back twice, it is a tough car. That front end damage is less than the damage I had on my current car when I scooped it. I hope everything works out for you.

$1000 per bumper minimum, plus a trunk lid for $1000, and whatever else they're going to straighten out.
