Maybe more than you want to know but...

If you can get someone to make CAD rendering of design you want, it can be output in 3-D plastic on a PRINTER. I have heard of people doing this to make models of their gaming avatars... No idea how much it costs for a one-off, but the technology is cool...

If you can sculpt, cast or rapid prototype your Autobot emblem in plastic, you can take it to certain jewelers (call around) to have it electroplated in your favorite metal. If you want chrome and can't find a jeweler to electroplate a chrome finish, then ask body shops where they send things to get chromed... or see if they'll handle it for you.

This just occurred to me, because I was chatting with a jeweler about how someone brought in a pistol's slide and lower receiver to be custom nickel-plated and engraved. So why not car badges?

There's a chrome paint out there now, I have some and it actually works. You paint the part gloss black first, then apply the chrome spray. Thats it!

I is going to set you back, but maybe an outfit like this could make you an emblem that you could epoxy on?

If you draw it up on autoCAD, you can save it as a DWF file and bring it into a CNC shop and they can cut it out for you in no time what so ever..

or, have them cut out the reverse and then send it to a molder and have them plastic injection molded and finished in chrome. You are look at about $5g's to set it up, but you could end up making $25g's selling them... and that my friends is a GREAT ROI!! (return on investment) You won't get that playing the stock market...:headbang:

BTW, I wanted to say that I'm very impressed at the amount of feedback on this thread, and the many interesting, creative ideas regarding how to build a custom emblem. Nice going, YW'ers!

I have autocad, inventor, solidworks, and pro-e...lemme know if you'd like me to model it.

EDIT

Here is a quote from http://youremblem.com/faq.php

Q:Can YourEmblem make customized logos?
A:We've looked into many ways to make custom emblems such as logos However, the set-up costs are prohibitively expensive, unless you are interest in 1000s of pieces of them.

Ok, I know someone has covered this before but maybe it not showing up when you search...

Your emblems are held on with double stick foam tape on back. Each has two little pins on the back that rest in holes; this is just to keep it in position.

So, let your emblem warm up in the sun--this will soften adhesive on the sticky tape. I used fishing line to begin sawing through the tape from behind on one edge, then I could just pull it off with my fingers. The front emblem is 2 parts--chrome piece over black piece underneath--no idea how you get that piece off, didn't try it. Rear emblem is solid piece.

Use similar tape from auto parts store to apply whatever emblem you decide to put back on there.

I am quoting Chris here...

Front emblem can be removed from the black housing (go look at yours to see what i mean), by gently heating and "sawing" away from behind with fishing line.

Same exact procedure for the rear, except there is no housing, it is attached directly to the hatch.

You will need to find some 3M body tape to reinstall the emblems. DO NOT use regular double sided tape from the hardware store, its way too thick, wont be as strong, and will look like shit.

Body tape is whats used to install spoilers, body kits etc. Its super thin, and SUPER strong, so be careful when you are placing the emblems.

That should cover it, now go do it.

what are you doing with your emblems K-K?

try typing in debadge debadged should turn up several threads

Nothing special, Brick, I just painted gloss black then sparkly clearcoat. :wub:

I found removal instructions somewhere here, I think Chris07LB posted it... But of course the real trick is getting out there and giving it a try yourself... Nothin like tearin shit apart to see how it works...

Totally off topic but speaking of DIY I am installing crank pulley tomorrow! It's bloody knuckles time! :headbang:  :headbang:

just another idea. if you can remove the chrome Toyota part from the black back piece that mounts to the car....

you could throw anything in the black part, and fill it up with an epoxy like "envirotex lite" that would seal it in there, be crystal clear, and protect it. That way you could just find anyhting you wanted (ebay?) and encase it into your stock emblem holder,,,,,

just an idea, not sure if you could find something sadisfactory to put in there. and the finished product wouldnt look exactly like the factory one, but would look like a solid clear plasitc piece...
