HA!
I was just curious why Canadians (and Mexicans for that matter) do not take offence to people from the United States referring to themselves as "Americans." America is a continent, not a county. it really bothers me every time I hear it.... but i'm kinda strange anyway, but still...

Not even one continent! You forgot South Americans.

Canada... Canadians
Mexico... Mexicans
United States of America... Americans

All makes sense to me.

The official name of the country is the United States of America. It's not uncommon for people to just drop the "united states" or "united kingdom" parts of a country's name, just for simplisity.

I suppose you can call everyone from the North and South America, americans too, because those are the names of the continents they're from. You woudn't be wrong.

Just like you can call everyone who lives in the continent of Africa, africans, Europe, europeans, and so on.

yeah, but if I lived in France, I would not identify as "European," i'd identify as French. If I lived in Chile, I would not identify as "South American." I find it very selfish to claim an entire continent where your country is located. this is just how it works in my crazy brain.
I just find it super annoying when people yell, "AMERICA!" and all I can think is, "awe, you're not sure where you live..."

While not offended, most Canadians prefer not to be misidentified as Americans.

Who's "English" in the "British Isles?" Who's a Brit? What's a Scot? Welch? Irish?
("USA" avoids confusion and Canadian concerns. I'm fine with "The USAs won 77 medals at the 2084 space races."

I had the genetic test done from ancestry.com. it came back 99% Western European. So what's the proper label there? Western European American from the United States of America? I guess?
To be honest I really do not care much for labels. Nor is it that inporntant where anybody came from. What I find inporntant is where they are going, with who, what they want to do and how they are going to do it. The rest is just borders and the past.

yeah, but it's been that way for 50 years. the real issue is all the morons that have been moving here from other areas and think they can drive around hitting the bong. we've also had in influx of bums coming in so they can sit around and get stoned and beg for money to buy more pot. it sucks. we have heavy traffic around the clock now. idk if it moves so slow because of the volume, or because of stoned idiots...

I was thinking about moving to Washington; but then I called and talked with a Bosch representative in Portland. he was telling me about their traffic and rent skyrocketing issues. it sounds the same as here, but more bums, yuck. plus I hear product is more expensive.
I was also looking at a place in Montana that has a Bosch facility that's about 300 miles from the Washington border, and 900 to Colorado. I bet the traffic is wonderful there!

Your friend in Portland is correct about Seattle and the outlying areas. It is a beautiful city, there is no part of the city that I would not go at 2am and walk down a dark alley. The people are very docile. Maybe cuz they're baked all the time I don't know. If you are a man I mean a real man who can like cut firewood or fix a car you will be one of only two or three in the entire city. There are no men in the greater Seattle area. There are little boys and there are men that look like women. As a matter of fact there are many women that are much more manly than your average male.
It is a strange place, different. The cost of living is ridiculous. The drug problem is a disaster. And the bums and heroin addicts are out of control. And yes the traffic is a freaking joke. It rains and it's depressing that's true too.
The state of Washington is an absolutely amazing and beautiful place with some of the most wonderful things to see. If you're an outdoor enthusiast it's a 1/4 place because of the diversity of the environment. You can go from the ocean to the rainforest to the temperate climate to the Mount top of the snow capped mountains and back down to the dry desert floor all in about a hundred miles.
The place is wonderful. It's mostly the people I could do without.
